Br. Gregory Morris, O.S.B
@meinradmonk87.bsky.social
Monk of Saint Meinrad Archabbey

The other Gregory, not the Great, but "the Father of the Fathers".
Oddly enough, that was not recorded in the Gospel of Matthew, but head canon is head canon.

Matthew: "Look, Jesus, I know you want me to follow and be part of your band. But Fido is giving you the stink eye, and that's a deal breaker for me."

@catholickungfu.bsky.social is the HUvB expert if you are looking for help.

And, we don't like those cherished things to be tested and purified.

Jesus was very good about using prophetic and apocalyptic language to say, " I got this covered, and you will understand only once you go through it."

Our* I need holy water to exorcise autocorrect

It is indeed. For me, it makes that conundrum of obediental potency easier to adjudicate.
November 18, 2025 at 2:21 PM
Obedience as receptivity, yeah? What human beings participate by grace, Jesus' obedience to the Father is the fullness of love and spiritual freedom?

Thank you!

A "retired bishop" without a diocese is a weird phenomenon, even though we make fantasical dioceses for some.

I would not be happy with the kings if I were a Deuteronomist author writing in exile because they couldn't get their act together.
November 16, 2025 at 8:43 PM
2 Kings gets pretty depressing once the kingdom splits North and South with Elijah and Elisha being their prophetic selves.

I do love that Dannish angsty nerd. He probably drank way too much caffeine for his own good. I don't blame him.
November 16, 2025 at 3:08 PM
True. And, nostalgic play acting and egoistic self aggrandizement are powerful drives for human beings.
November 16, 2025 at 2:28 PM
We are expendable for the sake of the kingdom. Not without discretion or prudence. But, we are enabled to be holy fools.
November 16, 2025 at 2:25 PM
Which I see as a worthwhile endeavor. Part of me wants to add my own monastic flavor to the tapestry.
November 15, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Which, I imagine, has other elements in that narrative, such as post-Reformation, Great Awakening, and colonial project.

I know you've (and others) worked toward a new way of illuminating HUvB with American luminaries, contemporary and modern.
November 15, 2025 at 2:19 PM
Yeah. I can accept that take. I am interested in that thick Catholic theological engagement with those elements of American apocalyptic and political thought.
November 15, 2025 at 1:04 PM
I know de Lubac and company made hash over Joachim of Flore as an antecedent modern thinker, but I am not entirely sold on that narrative.
November 15, 2025 at 12:38 PM
I naturally resonate with their apocalyptic and prophetic mode of living. Not Joachim of Flore but Hildegard and Rupert of Deutz.
November 15, 2025 at 12:37 PM
Not to be too Chestertonian, but I wonder if (in our neck of the woods and the last few decades) Christian humanism never fully materialized because it got shunted into defending or justifying certain institutions rather than fostering authentic engagement with contemporary culture.
November 14, 2025 at 5:32 PM
These days, it's Augustine's Confessions because that North African nerd is relatable.
