I keep seeing posts going "when ICE comes to MY city, we'll be out in the streets even harder" and man, I get that sentiment but I need everyone to understand that the work in Minneapolis is partly confrontational but MORE IMPORTANTLY aaallll the stuff organized in the background to help neighbors

oh my god this. i think people sometimes think that courage is acting without fear — but if you only ever move when you're calm and unafraid, you're not going to get much done. SHOW UP and use that grief, anger, fear, and sorrow as fuel to make change. it's the best medicine, among other things.
I think they might mistake our courage and our solidarity for a lack of fear, and that if they can make us scared enough we'll make ourselves small. That won't work, because we're all terrified and we're SHOWING UP ANYWAY with love and compassion and joy and care.
it feels a lot like today's murder is in response to the mass protests yesterday, as if to tell us we're powerless, that our solidarity won't protect us.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.
