Right, so I knew about cuckoo #bumblebees and how interesting they are, but today I read that sometimes other bumblebees can be intraspecific parasites??

I am INTRIGUED. Got out my New Nat Bumblebees, but it didn't have much detail before it moved onto cuckoo bumblebees. I need to know more!!

This weekend involved a big birding lifer for me at @lincswildlife.bsky.social Deeping Lakes (you can probably guess the lifer by the reserve!), but a wander round the reserve after also saw two fungi lifers too.

Spotted at night, one species likes to use vegetation to hide, while the other is known to forage in African woodlands...

Leave your guesses in the comments!

Never seen it, but it's on my wish list ❄️
Have you seen any hair ice? 🍭❄️

These silky ice strands form on rotting wood when temperatures dip below 0°C. A certain fungus triggers a process that changes how the water freezes, making it form into fine, hair-like strands instead of solid ice.

Belated new galls in November post! Plus, new site records!

A @wildlifebcn.org Corporate Wild Work Day at Pitsford Water Nature Reserve involved working in the wildlife garden and a short walk to a bird hide.

Of course, I kept an eye out for galls! And found three that were new to me.
