Insanity. The 20th century's brutal history of anticolonial struggle for a better world turned upside down in the service of Trumpism. Central figures in the Trump regime are mobilizing a bastardized account of US & world history to service its crackpot vision of premodern capitalism w/o democracy.
Eyes wide open, folks. They're revealing the supervillain plot.

Look, it's Trump in the British imperialist, Cecil Rhodes, infamous collosus-stands-bestride-the-African-continent pose.
Look I know this is all terrible and horrifying - it's important to be looking at what is happening in full clarity and seriousness... but it's also important to remember that these acts are absolutely fed off the power and public image people are giving him. Exactly the image he wants to project.

I'm looking forward to hear what @ojutel.bsky.social had to say on @gilduran's NerdReich podcast. He's one of the sharpest voices on the technofascists' plans to build systems & self-contained 'network states' that offer them an escape from society and democracy.
Excellent discussion with @gilduran.com and @ojutel.bsky.social on the Silicon Valley fascists and their plot to take over the world and enslave the rest of us.
New: Inside the Tech Cult: How Venture Capital Plans to Exist Democracy.

My conversation with @ojutel.bsky.social on the Nerd Reich pod. We talk about the failing bets that have helped to radicalize tech VCs, who now wish to cash in on democracy and humanity itself.

Beautiful. It's such a refreshing change to see Zohran Mamdani mobilize art, community, and beauty at his inauguration. It strikes such a welcome contrast to the usual state of politics.

Prof. @maryannefranks.bsky.social on how X's worsening record on CSAM and exploitative images set the stage for Grok to be used for the same purposes right now.
Child exploitation content on X/Twitter sharply increased under Musk, who not only abruptly disbanded the group of volunteer experts advising the platform on child safety, image exploitation, and other abuses in 2022, but tried to blame them for the company's CSAM problem www.npr.org/2022/12/12/1...

Having Grok issue an “apology” is not just insulting and stupid (obviously Grok cannot actually “regret” anything, deeply or otherwise) but cowardly: It asks us to assign responsibility to an unconscious piece of software rather than the humans and institutions who should actually be blamed.

It's 2026 and time to check your assumptions about Russia's strength (it's much weaker than you might think) and that the US will automatically return to being a "normal" state post Trump (unlikely).
It's New Year, so time to look back and forward. These are 10 things I think we need to recognise in 2026. It’s a response to what I think are profoundly damaging mistaken assumptions I’ve heard and read from practitioners, journalists, and analysts in 2025. Warning: very long🧵

Yes. We can.
Most read from Tech Policy Press in 2025: "We can create systems that expand opportunity rather than concentrate power. We can build technology that strengthens democracy rather than undermines it." — Alondra Nelson.

Thanks @uccmediajustice.org, @newsguild.org, @nabetcwa.bsky.social & @publicknowledge.bsky.social for joining @freepress.bsky.social to stop this conglomerate merger.

Like I say when Brendan Carr talks about defending localism: these giant chains are local broadcasters like CVS is a local pharmacy.
Who needs champagne and parties when you can fight a broadcast merger instead?? 🍾🥂🎊🪩

Just filed at the FCC, on the NYE due date. (Thanks Brendan!) Our formal Petition to Deny the broadcast behemoth merger between Nexstar (of Jimmy Kimmel infamy) and TEGNA.

How on earth, indeed. 🤔
Some of my 📚 have included 50+ photos. I've spent *entire summers* tracking down rights holders + handling clearances. Every copyrighted graphic in 100+ articles and chapters: all researched, cleared, and, in most cases, *paid for*. That's a ton of time, expertise, effort, and (unrecouped) 💰.

Media convergence 1.0, circa 1930s. Remember, AT&T a decade earlier had 2 stations in a planned national American Broadcasting System network. It also leveraged its key role in rewiring movie studios & theatres for sound to became one of the largest financiers of Hollywood movies in the 1930s.
I doubt that. Oh, wait...

1. ensure europe doesn't regulate their political allies on the right, enabling space for incitement, disinfo, propaganda.
