She is right that we should be concerned, but she's also right about the incredible demands being a player put on other systems. +People, land, power, water.) 3-4 players is probably enough, the problem is *who* the players are and the interests they're beholden to.
In short, the problem here is not that Signal ‘chose’ to run on AWS. The problem is the concentration of power in the infrastructure space that means there isn’t really another choice: the entire stack, practically speaking, is owned by 3-4 players. 11/

Many of the people who have been screaming for decades about planned economies and government-chosen winners and losers (rightly, I think!) are fine with an economy run by one self-obsessed, deeply ignorant man, who picks winners and losers based on his own whims, obsessions, and grift.
'A slap in the face': Ranchers feel betrayed by Trump's plan to buy Argentine beef
Over the past few days, cattle ranchers and agricultural groups have been sounding the alarm that a plan to import more foreign beef would hurt struggling ranchers.

I continue to sincerely want the term “Kavanaugh Stop” to be a badge of shame for the rest of Brett Kavanaugh’s days; the only bit of writing he’s known or remembered for; his sole contribution to the Law; for him to perceive, in little stabs of self-awareness, that this will be his rancid legacy.
What a sick world.

Trump's federal agents shot Marimar Martinez, a US citizen, multiple times for allegedly menacing them with her car in Chicago. Only hours later, Kristi Noem and DHS started spreading disinformation about the shooting.

Now the official line is crumbling. 1/

Trump’s Secret Police Shot a Citizen. Then Damning New Info Emerged.
As the official Trump administration line about the shooting of a Chicago woman crumbles, Senator Chris Murphy is asking pointed questions about what really happened here. Will we ever get answers?

NEW: “Bands of masked men apprehending people in broad daylight in the streets and hauling them off. Disappearing people to a third country,” a former DHS official said. “We’re at an inflection point in history right now and it’s frightening.”
How Trump is Building a Repressive, Shadowy Federal Police Force
Trump’s DHS appointees have dismantled civil rights guardrails, protected agents’ anonymity and encouraged them to wear masks, threatened groups that stood in their way, and overwhelmed legal challenges to their arrests and tactics.

And not just any reporter. Radley Balko's reporting has gotten an innocent man off death row. He's broken multiple major stories about huge scandals. He goes in-depth on the ground with tons of local sources. Dismissing his detailed debunking as Weiss did is something no serious journalist would do.
Hi Sally. When Weiss published a supposed expose on the death of George Floyd, a veteran criminal justice reporter showed in deep detail that the piece was not just wrong but filled with falsehoods and misrepresentations. Weiss did not retract the piece. What do you think of that?
This is really smart. Amazed at the hysteria over the ascendance of a woman entrepreneur who clearly knows how to cover and sell news and who's not afraid to take on a mob. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

Feeling unable to rely on the existing professional police forces, the NSDAP created the Geheime Staatspolizei immediately after coming to power. It immediately made it a serious crime against the state to criticize the Gestapo, publicly disclose its members or their residences, or to protest them.
The Nazi Party and its Violence Against the Jews, 1933-1939: Violence as a Historiographical Concept
In his masterpiece, Behemoth, first published in 1942, Franz Neumann referred to violence as “not just one unimportant phenomenon in the structure of National Socialist society.” Violence, Neumann argued, “is the very basis upon which the [Nazi] society rests.”1 He regarded violence as a technique of dominating the masses from above, and the ministerial bureaucracy, the armed forces, the industrial and agrarian leadership and the Nazi party all aimed to dominate German society by using violence

Keep in mind there's nothing preventing the US from doing nonlethal searches and seizures. The Coast Guard and sometimes Navy often does this. In the time between the 1st and 3rd deadly US strike, sailors from the USS Jason Dunham stopped and searched a ship. The strikes are a deliberate choice.
3rd deadly US strike on a boat in the Caribbean.

As with the others:
-in area US military operates freely
-where arrest has relatively low risk, and greater strategic value
-no US legal rationale, or even attempt to offer one
-blatant violation of international law
-no evidence US knew who they hit
