Finding the reactions to this bleakly funny. Lads, the point isn’t that you are sending enough people to “win”, because we in fact, can’t win. It is just to have a tripwire! If you are going “why not 13, like Germany?” you have not understood how bad things are.
BREAKING: The UK is sending a single military officer to Greenland at the request of Denmark to participate in a multi-nation exercise

No desire to defend Starmer *at all*, but I think it’s important to recognise that UKGov is in the tightest diplomatic hole of almost all NATO countries but Denmark here.

Almost every possible move is a potential self-exploding catch-22 for them.

I find it astonishing that the idea that children should upload selfies to X as part of a state-mandated age verification scheme is still being floated.
Particularly unhappy with the attempt to move discussion off the X illegal abuse image factory to the pre-existing Garda wish to bring in age verification to allow surveillance of all adults and children’s access of *lawful* material.

These are incomparable issues in terms of seriousness.

Official confirmation of German participation in European troop deployment to Greenland. First Bundeswehr soldiers to arrive tomorrow. 🇪🇺 / NATO solidarity in action.

I think it's also really, really important to emphasise that the UK Prime Minister is sounding positive noises about Musk's promises to stop his unprecedented deepfake-child porn factory, given that said factory remains, many hours later, 100% operational.

I have tested again just now to be sure, as it was still allowing this yesterday, but yes - I am able to edit images of other people, uploaded by other users, into lingerie using a free account. X and Grok make no attempt to block me.

The 'give ice qr codes' thing reminds me of when Sarah Everard was murdered by a real policeman using his real police id to kidnap her, and the police & gvt made out the solution was to have a helpline to check that the person bundling you away was a real policeman (as the murderer was)

Still see quite serious people saying “Nah, he’d never *actually* invade and occupy Greenland.”

That’s fine if it’s just for diplomacy’s sake.

But the real answer to any question of whether he would actually do something extreme, stupid, ignorant, harmful and beyond the pale is *always* yes.

"A country that eats less, drinks less, and gathers less may look healthier on paper. But if it is lonelier, angrier, and more fragmented, it is certainly not well."
Been thinking a lot about how we are talking about health and society so I wrote down some thoughts about what happens when self-care replaces collective care, and why joy, connection, and shared spaces are as essential to a nation’s wellbeing as any diet

When “what’s good for us” stops meaning "us"
Wellness culture promises control and self-care — but what happens when it starts to hollow out our shared collective lives?

Can MAGA tech firm Palantir be trusted to run Britain's data?
It's wildly overvalued, politically extreme and puts Trump first – but somehow has £1bn of deals to run Britain's tech infrastructure

Precisely so.
Mandelson should simply retire completely. We should never hear from him again. We don’t need his opinion on anything at all.
"I suspect that almost every women who listened to it said 'Where is your compassion and empathy for the women?'"

Baroness Kennedy responds to Lord Mandelson's latest apology last night, following criticism that he hadn't gone far enough in Sunday's BBC interview.

Yeah. It's a sign of a huge collective failure of understanding and an inability to get to the heart of things that so few immediately got 'there is no level of convenience or ease of service that means you ignore the state's most fundamental duties'.
It speaks to how broken MPs' media diet is that all parties didn't collectively go "pedophilia bad" at the first possible opportunity here
