When I lived in the US, there were three things that I missed above all else about the UK. The NHS, the BBC and multiculturalism (although this was largely due to not being able to get a decent curry).
They are what makes Britian great to me and I will defend them forever.

Been in hospital with the boy for a few days (he is okay). I know this preaching to the choir but good god, the NHS; what a thing. When I see the frayed worn edges of the hospital, it absolutely boils my blood to think what thin skinned billionaires could do to help others if they wanted to.

This feels like peak infantilisation of the elderly.
What exactly is ‘disgraceful’ about giving the elderly/infirm practical advice about how to be physically intimate in a safe way? They aren’t children. Their innocent eyes don’t need to be protected. Plus it’s medical guidance not a jazz mag

UK politics live – latest updates
Decades-old racism is returning to British politics, and “it makes people feel very scared” Keir Starmer has said, warning that divisive hard-right politics was “tearing our country apart”.
Speaking to GP and TV personality Amir Khan, the prime minister accused Nigel Farage’s Reform UK of overseeing a return of the racist and divisive politics “that frankly I thought we had dealt with decades ago”. Continue reading...

Fun (or not so fun) fact - the author of the “BBC bias” memo is a lobbyist for the American Pharmaceutical Group.
U.S. pharma companies recently threatened to abandon the UK unless the NHS pays more for its medicines.
They also donated millions to Trump’s campaign and inauguration

OK. Here's the thing. You just can't put on a jacket and pretend to be a security patrol in the UK. It's actually illegal. Who the actual F are these "Essex Spartans"? Government has laws and rules and they need to enforce them.

I'm not sure if others have noticed this, but interesting that one of the Prescott criticisms of the BBC is based on those of the 'History Reclaimed' group, which is also associated with the 'Restore Trust' group's attacks on & so far unsuccessful attempts to take control of the National Trust. 1/3

Robbie Gibb was appointed to the BBC Board by Boris Johnson, was an editorial advisor for GB News, and worked as Theresa May's Director of Comms.
He is not impartial or neutral. The government should remove him from the Board immediately to protect the BBC's independence.

Jesus, if we were to lose the BBC and ITV’s Media & Entertainment division is bought by Comcast we’ll see the complete Americanisation of UK television. The US obviously makes loads of wonderful television. But I like to think the weird Britishness of stuff we make over here has value too.

Do keep thinking that much discussion about the failings of the BBC is in the same category as 'the bus doesn't stop in front of my house so all buses are rubbish'. The BBC has lots of problems, but problems in society won't be removed by removing the BBC.
