Seems like a problem with the rules if you can have a financial benefit from 25 properties but structure it so you don't have to declare that interest #nzpol
Registrar of Pecuniary Interests finds that National MP Carl Bates' enormous secret undeclared property portfolio of 25 houses was "within the rules" and did not need to be declared. Also suggests implicitly that those rules should change. bills.parliament.nz/v/4/7a8bd0f8...

Why yes, the way to improve education is to launch an all out assault on the independence of the teaching profession and curriculum and assert political control over it all. Just ask any despot, they’ll agree.

Also worth noting this is being slid in at the last minute to avoid scrutiny through submissions and select committee. A purely anti democratic move.

Blows my mind that people think that it doesn’t damage our nations soul to not honour Te Tiriti

The coalition is taking our soul and trading it for military equipment and a low wage economy. That’s Seymour’s dream and it is awful for us and our children
Elizabeth Rata wanted it gone, and so it is done.

And just in from Seymour.
This is the intent. Forget whatever flowery words Erica uses. They want your child growing up in a NZ that is blind to its history. That’s not learning, it’s indoctrination.

Once you hear from anyone with experience of trying to engage with this Govt over their magic beans curriculum rewrite, you understand that what they’ve presented is something written by people too ignorant to understand how much they don’t understand but possessed of the confidence of fools.

Yeah, the curriculum
Stanford has released is #notourcurriculum and shows is exactly who this govt is, but as the @aec.org.nz gather in Wellington today to set up for conference, just know that we are strong and united in fighting for an education that doesn’t erase our kids’ pasts and futures.

I'm reading the new Social Sciences curriculum content and I wasn't prepared for how sad I would feel. We spent thousands of hours working with the previous iteration and the NZ history content and all that enthusiasm and excitement was just killed for something so bad.

One of the reasons I’m excited to teach high school Social Sciences and History in Aotearoa New Zealand is the curriculum that integrates the value and lessons to be drawn from ALL of the country’s past. But this government ruins everything it touches and I’m too furious for words.
