Another hit-me-between-the-eyes moment from this book. One of the easiest shifts is from Resister to Explorer mode. Resisters show they have agency but point it away from learning because they are not engaged. We can engage them simply by linking learning to their interests! Simple! #DisengagedTeen

Key framework from Disengaged Teen by Anderson and Winthrop. My last series of posts referred to the Passenger zone. Next up will be the Achiever zone

Started reading this book and this sentence on the 3rd page whacked me between the eyes: "A shocking number of young people don't see the point of school anymore."

Just finished listening to all of the albums in here. Some crossover with my previous obsession last year with 1001 Albums To Listen To Before You Die but found more enjoyable. More substantial notes to read and much less weird ones.

I have just listened to all 4 sides of Trout Mask Replica and I still don't get it (have listened to it about 5 times over the last 10 years). I should get a medal though for effort and persistence.

And my brief sub for the Social Security Amendment Bill. This one also closes over the break (10 Jan!). Doesn't take long because if you're decent you'll feel strongly about how this Bill will treat some of our most vulnerable. Just tell them about how it makes you feel.

Here's my brief submission on the Oranga Tamariki Amendment Bill (Bootcamps). Only took a few minutes. They're sneaking through a few submission close dates over this holiday period. This one closes on the 9th. If you're just a little bit uncomfortable with the intent of this Bill then tell them

Had goal of listening to every album in this collection in 2024 year. My rules were if I owned them on vinyl or CD I had to play them. Rest I could listen to on Spotify - gave me a weird Spotify algorithm! Here it is 9 December and once the M.I.A. CD is over I'll have number 1001 to listen to

Accepted a weird challenge to listen to all of the '1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die' on the turntable/CD Drive or Spotify for the ones I don't have. I must say tonight I enjoyed Captain Beefheart's Safe As Milk.

What's a perfect album that came out when you were 16? And I've still got it and it's on the turntable right now!
