All day yesterday, as I braced for disappointment, I repeated this quote to myself.

To all of you hopeful fighters, good morning. You won a round.

Here’s how we should all be reporting on the spurious claims from these agencies that have repeatedly been caught in lies and exaggerations:
Border patrol chief reprimanded for lying claims shots were fired at immigration officers in Chicago
Gregory Bovino was called out by a judge only two days earlier for lying about being assaulted by a protester

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.

Gillibrand and Schumer’s voicemails still have room on their DC numbers! Took me 3 minutes!
Call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and they will connect you with your senator's office.

If you're represented by one of the squishier centrists, be sure to make a call. Now.
Sounds like the squishes in the senate caucus are ready to pull the plug with no ACA changes. This is real. If you want to register your opinion you shld call yr senator in the next hour. They not only want to reopen w/nothing. They want cover from their colleagues who still want to hold out.

Flaming Hydra is a coop. All you can do with your share is sell it back to the coop (for $1), and nobody can have more than one.

You have to be ready for growth to take a long time. Journalism is a public trust that should be accountable to readers alone, and that means readers alone pay for it.
How does one invest in left-wing media without a far-right billionaire coming along in a few years, buying said media, and remodeling it in his own image?

That seems to be a recurring problem.

A Final Indignity: Cuomo's White Ford Bronco Got a Parking Ticket
Thanks to an eagle-eyed New Yorker, who saw the car illegally parked outside of the ex-gov's Sutton Place apartment on Wednesday, and reported it to 311.

If you are going to solicit pieces from experts with a voice, let them use their voice.

Your job as an editor is to help the writer be clear in the translation from thought to page. And know when to get out of the way.

I am so upset.

Last week Time Magazine solicited a piece from me on Zohran Mamdani & anti-Muslim hate. I pitched a framing re the dehumanization of Muslims & how Mamdani’s inclusive, socialist campaign in its content resists that. They agreed. I wrote the piece. 1/
To be asked to write about racism only to be racially aggressed in the editing process is a new level unlocked I have to say.

It doesn’t matter what I think. Also, none of this would ever happen. But if I had a zillion dollars:

1. Run a “we do hard things” campaign across southern and rust belt states. Invest heavily in local, state and regional social infrastructure. Sponser later hours at a library, build a skate park…
If I were to sum up my advice to the Democratic party leadership about how to defeat Trumpism, it would be to set aside policy for now and focus instead on articulating a vision of what American society should look like and what role the US should play in a rapidly changing world today.

In contrast, @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social 's campaign is closing with community and pluralist joy. I canvassed today and so many people we met on the street looked at our Mamdani materials and broke out into smiles. It's the polar opposite of what Dean Obeidallah writes about in this great essay.

This week I had someone tell me they're not worried about SNAP being cut off because "that's illegal, so it's impossible Trump could do that, so obviously it's just media sensationalism." Another person told me they weren't worried about ICE because "they can't detain you if you're legally here."
