Words cannot describe what we'll be losing if these cuts go through.
Feared this was coming. It will suck to lose the job I have loved for 19 years. If this goes through, it will gut the science capacity that helps us understand and conserve fish, wildlife, and our natural world. Expecting the RIF notices to go out end of this coming week.
Fate of Wyoming Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit staffers — Matt Kauffman, Anna Chalfoun and Annika Walters — remains unclear, but Trump administration cuts have led to widespread suspicion that their days on the job are numbered.

The black-footed ferret has been coming back from the brink of extinction thanks to the work of US government scientists. They just got fired. www.vox.com/down-to-eart...
This animal is on the edge of extinction. Trump just fired the people trying to save it.
Job cuts and frozen funding could inch one of the world’s rarest species even closer to extinction.

Of course many federal workers can just “find another job”. But the point is that the jobs we do are done for the *public good*. There are no private sector corollaries. We do things that are largely not profitable and that is on purpose. We do work that benefits everyone, if sometimes indirectly.

Fellow Mammalogists.

As many of you are aware, science is in a state of turmoil in the United States. Recent efforts to drastically reduce government workforces and research funding for science will lead to many adverse consequences for Earth’s remaining natural ecosystems.

Whenever I see misinformation on here related to topics in which I have expertise, I struggle to choose between the two paths:

(1) Correct the misinformation, or;

(2) as a mentor once advised me, “don’t wrestle with pigs, because you’ll get dirty and they love it.”

I usually pick the latter.
