Writer, reader at The Paris Review, sometimes pianist
Had the unbelievable privilege of hearing Seong-Jin Cho perform the complete solo piano works of Ravel on Wednesday night. Cho is one of the best Ravel interpreters alive, I think; so sensitive and coloristic. His soft playing is utterly transcendent

Someone should make an immersive video game/sim where you play as Joan Didion and try to manage a beautiful writing career in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. The title, which is also its marketing gimmick, could be JRPG, short for Joan (Didion) Role Playing Game, instead of Japanese Role Playing Game.

A very short chapter I just fell in love with in Marías’s “Dark Back of Time.” (The “it” referred to in the opening sentence is being remembered as a “nice young man.”)

The New York Times had entire homepages full of stories on campus antisemitism hearings.

It has not yet written about the biggest human rights organization in the world saying that Israel is committing genocide.
NEW: Human rights organization Amnesty International has released a 296-page report concluding that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.

The group joins Holocaust historians, United Nations experts, and a growing number of nations worldwide in doing so.
BREAKING: Amnesty Concludes Israel Is Committing Genocide
“We will look back and say, ‘Why did we not do more earlier?” Amnesty's director tells Zeteo.

hey all, any recommendations for introductory stuff on Deleuze? I’m reading Todd May’s intro to Deleuze right now and finding it difficult because it feels vague. Maybe I just need to dive into his work or closely study the SEP article??

I feel bad for not liking The Waves as a novel. Its language is often beautiful enough that I write down phrases to save them but I am just not enjoying it as a novel…it’s possible I’m a monster idk

I keep twitter on dark mode and bluesky on light mode for the easy unconscious moral prompting that twitter is something to be glimpsed at furtively in shame whereas bluesky is a bright and open exchange of ideas etc

Ben Lerner is exciting and inspiring to me in a way so few other writers are; I think he’s a genius. This latest piece is another bit of brilliance:
