This flower is called a Poinsettia in English. September is the best time to discuss the name's connection to colonialism and why I would never call this plant a poinsettia.

Super excited to see this work out in Current Biology - we sequenced a phoronid genome and used shared chromosome fusions to confirm the monophyly of Lophophorata.
A big team effort from the Luo Lab @yjluo.bsky.social!

We have had surveys that have shown us exactly this in the UK, France, the EU etc for many years
What we need to ask ourselves is why have journalists, politicians, academics etc chosen to focus on surveys that hype immigration

Trump: "why is it called Gulf of Mexico if we own 92% of it..."
He could just say "because I wanted so". But in his fantasy world he needs to have a reason that seems fair and in that fantasy world, of his own creation, having 44% of the shoreline is not a good reason, so he lies. What a sad man.

The Gulf of America is now the name for the northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico which sits on the Mexico Basin. Now is the time to be as pedantic as you can and journalists are dropping the ball. Sheinbaum already explained this in her morning press conference.

In another for NatGeo, I dig into how dinosaur “mummies” are preserved - and why there are probably many more exceptional dinosaur fossils out there than we ever dreamed. 🧪

Here's how dinosaur ‘mummies’ are helping scientists solve fossil mysteries
A new study sheds light on how these reptiles become “mummies” and paints a picture of what these ancient animals looked like.

Since Spotify has gotten cozy with ICE, I am looking for alternatives to cancel it for good.
Does anyone know of apps I can migrate my playlists and libraries to? I think Deezer seems to be the option, but not really sure how to migrate this from Spotify Android.

So I just wanted to take a moment amidst a hectic time to thank everyone who has reached out.
I don’t know when I will have the time to reply to everyone, but I intend to.

Lol the Nobels can't even acknowledge women's contribution to discovery. But sure let's acknowledge The Machines.

Despite its name, this animal is a devonian mollusk, more specifically a basal polyplacophoran. You may know its current day relatives as little criters on the beaches called "chitons" (that are not slugs with shells nor crustaceans).

I have little respect for El Chavo del Ocho. That SNL got El Chavo del Ocho wrong is just beyond me. And on top of that, I feel the need to defend it!
But then I remember it's a concept created so that the audience will be dormant as the fascist regimes in LatAm opressed us and then I let go
