DOGE was always a very thinly disguised con to dress up data theft and extraction class destruction of federal corporate oversight as innovative, and it's important to remember that part of the reason it worked so well is that the press helped legitimize it
hey don't be so hard on yourselves; it delivered oceans of sensitive government and citizen data to billionaires

If Trump manages to abolish the filibuster, the long-term impact of his Presidency will likely be radically progressive - since it means the next time Democrats take back the government, a multi-decade backlog of progressive laws will get enacted.
"What once seemed like a dignified brake on hasty lawmaking now blocks even routine governance," U.S. treasury secretary Scott Bessent writes. https://wapo.st/4iiAAKS
Opinion | It’s time to end the filibuster
Senate Republicans should not shy from doing what Democrats are certain to do.

The far right used critiques of globalism to promote a politics of ethno-nationalist authoritarianism. The left critique of global capital was not intentionally part of that broader fascist project, but when they gave air to (often implicitly) antisemitic conspiracy theories they helped the right.

There was a big populist resurgence in the US in the late 70s & early 80s. Like today, it was politically diverse, including folks on the left & right. One point of occasional overlap between left & right was a fascination with anti-globalist conspiracy theories. rightlandia.ghost.io/the-trilater...

It reminded me of the mid-1970s when conspiracy theories about Nixon and Watergate flourished on the counter-cultural left. Slow Burn did a great episode on this relatively little-remembered feature of Watergate. slate.com/news-and-pol...

Thinking back to November 2023 when Soledad O'Brien and Rob Reiner devoted their time and clout to this credulous conspiracy podcast about the JFK assassination. Feeding the anti-government conspiracy theory mill when there were 12 months to go before a crucial election was, IMO, a bad choice.
