I had the great honor of writing the introduction to the @enchantedlion.bsky.social edition of Gianni Rodari's Adventures of Cipollino, translated by Antony Shugaar. This expands on that introduction! Huge thanks to Max Nelson for letting me dig into kids' books, produce, and the joy of the absurd.

I don’t think anyone is prepared for what they just did w/ ICE.
This is not a simple budget increase. It is an explosion - making ICE bigger than the FBI, US Bureau of Prisons, DEA,& others combined.
It is setting up to make what’s happening now look like child’s play. And people are disappearing.

this is the level of funding where all the possibilities for American politics that have been described as hyperbolic over the past decades - the comparisons to Nazi Germany and other nightmares of the 20th century - become logistically possible and politically likely
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:
- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

Damn‼️ Federal agents blew a door off for this?
Federal agents blasted their way into an LA home where Jenny Ramirez lives with her boyfriend and two kids.
She heard the blast while checking on her 6-year-old, with her 1-year-old in her arms.
Ramirez says everyone in the home is a U.S. citizen.

Scoop: Florida is building a detention facility for migrants nicknamed “Alligator Alcatraz,” in the Everglades designed to help the Trump administration's immigration crackdown.
