I feel like the whole thing just makes it really really clear that for some people "is this policy any good" is completely incidental to the actual goal of politics, which is being popular. "I will lobotomize myself and replace my amygdala with opinion polls" is staggeringly common
Said this yesterday but the ACLU thing makes it clear the whole discourse around "the Groups" is annoying in practice because people want politicians to do what The Groups want when they agree with The Groups and want politicians to ignore The Groups when they disagree with The Groups. what it is!

fusionist conservativism was a synthesis between social reactionaries and market fundamentalists and it has evolved into a redefinition of "the market" as "the system that reproduces reactionary social values"

"the charismatic guy promising to cut through the bullshit of democracy with raw violence, which will not actually solve the issue but will inflict enough fear to move forward on a solution" is uh not a development that helps *liberalism* historically
"my coworkers don't share my political views, but they do seem enthusiastic for a magnetic guy enacting physical revenge on a part of a complex system. not gonna investigate what that could mean, but i've decided it's Good"

Job Flexibility for Fathers!

When the Netherlands was hit by COVID, more fathers worked remotely & increased their childcare.

In the US, if men work remotely, then even after childbirth, their wife's earnings remain high
