the main thing is it just doesn't work at preventing sex crimes, and barring that the million reasons it's a bad idea (encourages people to be paranoid of their neighbors, massive invasion of privacy, potential for vigilante action, etc) stand out

that's fine cuz basically no one will know what their local private registry is, also if offenders are no longer required to update their current address i think maintaining a private registry might be legally stalking, i'm sure there's at least a civil liability
