I've had a similar experience. The people at Social Security are knowledgeable and compassionate.
family member dealt with a complex social security issue just before Trump/Musk, which was impossible to resolve over the website or phone. eventually a kind security guard let them into the office where a worker took care of it

What drives me crazy about the anti-DEI rhetoric is everyone wants to be judged on merit. But you can't be judged on merit if you can't even get in the door because you don't fit some prejudiced definition of who is capable and who isn't
