Read what Hossam, a 24-year-old Palestinian journalist, wrote just hours before he was killed today.

There are no words to describe the inhumanity of the times you and I are sharing.
Passage from Hossam Shabat: When I arrived on the scene, I wasn’t ready for the horror before my eyes. The streets were filled with the dead. Under every stone lay a martyr. Dozens were crying for help from underneath the rubble of their homes but there was no one to respond. Screams filled the air while everyone stood helpless. My tears didn’t stop. The scenes were more than any human being could bear. The ambulances were filled with corpses, their bodies and limbs piled on top and intertwined with one another. We could no longer distinguish between children and men, between the injured and the dead. At Al-Andalus hospital the scene was even more painful. The hospital was filled with martyrs. Mothers bid silent farewells to their children. Medical staff worked in horrific conditions, trying to treat the injured with only the most basic means available. It was an impossible situation with massive numbers of dead and wounded being brought in at a terrifying rate. Israel’s aggression continues. Massacre after massacre, leaving only the screams of mothers in its wake and the dreams of children that have turned to ash. There is no justification for this. Everything is being crushed: the lives of innocent people, their dignity, and their hopes for a better future.

So, it's 18 March, the 33rd Anniversary of the fabled Cutileiro Agreement in Bosnia-Herzegovina. There's a popular narrative of this agreement which typically goes something like this.

It's been brought up a bit more recently, particularly w/ comparisons to Ukraine. It's nonsense, and here's why. 🧵
Similar to how the Carrington-Cutileiro plan played out. It was agreed to and signed by representatives of all sides on March 18, 1992. Izetbegovic withdrew his signature on March 28, 1992 after meeting with the US amb. Warren Zimmerman. With this move, he chose to start the war.

Again, non-Jews have given themselves the right to define who is a Jew. This is still antisemitism.

The dominant form of pro-Israel politics in the US today is Christian Zionism, and it is antisemitic to the core.

And to be Palestinian here is to be the untermensch. We are seen as subhuman.

Email from Columbia President Armstrong makes clear that admin still has no idea what it’s dealing with. No amount of “serious action to combat antisemitism” (read: punish Palestine activists) will satisfy the Nazis. They see universities as an enemy institution to crush underfoot.
Columbia’s mission is to teach, create, and advance knowledge. For over 270 years, that mission has been grounded in an enduring and essential commitment to freedom of expression, open inquiry, and generous, respectful debate. Today, we were notified of federal action from Department of Justice (DOJ), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Department of Education (ED), and the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) cancelling $400 million in federal funding to the University. The federal agencies cite “the school’s continued inaction in the face of persistent harassment of Jewish students.” There is no question that the cancellation of these funds will immediately impact research and other critical functions of the University, impacting students, faculty, staff, research, and patient care. But let me be very clear: Columbia is taking the government’s action very seriously. I want to assure the entire Columbia community that we are committed to working with the federal government to address their legitimate concerns. To that end, Columbia can, and will, continue to take serious action toward combatting antisemitism on our campus.

I used Gemini to work on a translation of a story and instead of translating it invented an entire middle section, some 1/3 of the entire story. It didn’t follow the style even close. It used shitloads of anaphora. I mean a ridiculous amount. 😳😂
