You don't fight the evil of MAGA world by gloating over the harm suffered in disasters by people in "red states".

On the bright side, at least the Iraq War inspired some great art, like Revenge of the Sith

Pope Leo in Dilexi Te: “Thus, in a world where the poor are increasingly numerous, we paradoxically see the growth of a wealthy elite, living in a bubble of comfort and luxury, almost in another world compared to ordinary people."

Personal Gripe of the Year:

The Mastermind, Sirāt, BLKNWS, and The Secret Agent all played commercially in Houston, but the theaters and distribs did their best to keep you from knowing.

With the MFAH and the River Oaks, there is NO REASON for films like these to be buried in Humble or the AMC 30.

I’ve been hard at work on this all month: an epic history of the theme of Jesus’ birth and the Gospel infancy narratives in “Peanuts.” I couldn’t get it done by Christmas Day, but hey, it’s still the Christmas season! I hope you enjoy it. This is, I think my comics writing magnum opus so far.

With SECRETS & LIES, I just finished my 2025 Criterion challenge watch list.
52 films I had never seen before. A great list overall!

I did one of those meme-y Criterion Challenges this year (Watch 52 movies, each of which meet some specific criterion on a list) and I only have 2 left to finish, but they're Cassavetes's FACES and Leigh's SECRETS AND LIES and I don't think they'll be full of holiday cheer.

As a teacher, as a citizen, and as a human: I co-sign every point Greg Pak makes in this thread.
Ban LLM generative "AI". Now.
Thanks for sharing this document, @rweingarten.bsky.social.

I read it, and I believe it's inexcusably inadequate and will not prepare teachers or schools to confront the very real dangers of the "A.i." products pushed by your partners, including OpenAI.

A few thoughts for your consideration...

Every day I think about this. You'll never guess why.
Try to live your life such that the world is a better place when you leave it, but not BECAUSE you leave it.
