This is such a disturbing idea. Setting aside that you can't do immigration work in someone else's country, the government using them as private protection is wild. The implications are staggering.

That's my union calling for this. The local chapter has also put out statements (see my last repost)

We locally do not have collective bargaining anymore as we were deemed national security. Feds also can't strike/call for a general strike which fucking sucks

Breaking NBC:

Family members of two Trinidadian men who were killed in a U.S. boat strike in October have sued the U.S. government — accusing it of wrongful death and extrajudicial killings.

The lawsuit is the first of its kind to be filed against the Trump admin.

Is the dam breaking?

I would argue, no.

Look at these carefully measured Republican statements.
They talk about values, de-escalation, and investigation, but not the murder itself. Not the abusive force. Not the unchecked ICE operation. Not the ongoing violence committed by ICE. Not real change.

Dems do not have a majority and ICE has $75 billion outside of normal appropriations that it can spend even if DHS shuts down. Some of these asks would make actual, tangible difference (the warrant requirement being a huge one to correct an egregious illegality), but it wouldn't stop ICE in general.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

Terrifying sonic weapon.

Fed court (2nd Cir) ruled using LRAD on non violent protesters can be considered 14A violation, excessive force

I believe nothing DHS puts out in public. Nothing. Lunas Campos was killed by ICE in custody. It was homicide. He asked for his asthma meds. They put him in solitary and choked him to death. DHS is trying to deport the witnesses asap. Court filing seeks to keep them here.

Yes, absolutely, but that would require a legislative majority in at least one house of Congress. There is VERY recent precedent; remember the billions in IRS funding that the GOP freaked out about? Billions were clawed back in the FY24 bill, and the bill currently being considered cuts even more.

These are mostly children.

This is where Liam Ramos is being held.

They’re screaming “let us out” and protesting the brutal conditions.

The White House already doctored at least one photo of an arrest.

Are you going to believe whatever they "show" from a body camera?

We saw what the murderers did.
And if they have the video, they know who the murderers are.

Isn't protecting killers a crime?

It occurs to me that if “defending the 2nd amendment” is the only reason Republicans are turning on Noem/DHS/ICE, that suggests that the lesson many will take going forward is that the best way to AVOID getting shot will be…to carry a gun.

Which is troubling in & of itself.
Blood in the water.

I'm wondering if perhaps I was being obtuse calling the dem party out instead of focusing in on specifically the ones who are actively supporting DHS/CBP/ICE funding and expansion.

Like I feel pressing the whole of elected dems is the right thing, but maybe I'm wrong and singular focus is better.

Greg, you need to go through the criminal law they taught you at FLETC one more time
