I’m a tech lawyer and general geek, with a wonderful wife and three fab children.
I am going to need to binge watch The West Wing in a hurry now.

Oh, look - a real King doesn’t object to the leader of an invaded country not wearing a suit. And did he demand thanks for the UK’s support? Of course not.
Now that’s a State visit

Merry Christmas… and cheers!

The therapeutic value of a large glass of sherry while decorating a Christmas tree is not to be underestimated.

Does anyone else revisit episodes of The West Wing from time to time and think “if only”?

Now that’s a great idea!

…and it didn’t end well for George III.

The bigger question is whether it’s an Oxford comma, a Harvard comma or, in fact, a serial comma.
I was taught to always avoid the Oxford comma by Mrs Nelson, my year 4 primary school teacher and a formidable dominatrix.

But seriously, I love the Oxford Comma. So I made a starter pack of other serial comma aficionados. And I'll keep adding to it as I find more members of Team Oxford Comma . . .

I know there’s such a thing as marketing ‘puff’, but I don’t think it extends this far!
quite the claim from Microsoft here 🤔

Perhaps it’s all those wafers they hand out on Sundays?

Unless I am missing something, isn’t it each country’s responsibility to secure its own borders against unauthorised entry, rather than for another country to prevent its citizens from leaving?
I’m old enough to remember having told people that electing an ill, ignorant, and impulsive idiot to the presidency would be bad

Worse than that is when it ends on a cliffhanger and you then discover that the series was cancelled!
Always sucks when you hit the finale of a tv show you’ve been binge watching for comfort.

Are we to assume that the so-called ‘special relationship’ is dead - or at least in serious trouble?
On Elon Musk’s repeated attacks on Keir Starmer’s government Sky’s @samcoatessky.bsky.social rightly points out

“If we were talking about a figure close to the Kremlin or the government in Moscow we would be asking the question whether this was foreign interference”

Isn’t this what the National Trust is for? A historic treasure should not be the preserve of one man and his family.
Please, as you go about your day, spare a thought for this poor aristocrat who may lose his castle

That brought back a happy childhood memory - the wonderful Patrick Troughton in The Box of Delights. I may have to track that down for a trip down memory lane.
Every Christmas I watch three things. K9 and Company, The League of Gentlemen Christmas special and in the lead up Christmas, The Box of Delights. This year I’ll be watching in HD!

Looks like Terry Wogan having a bad day.

Love the scaling here - the dalek looks like a happy, ankle biting dog.
In unrelated research I just stumbled across this lovely advert in The Bookseller in 1964 for David Whitaker’s book ‘Doctor Who in an Exciting Adventure with the Daleks’.

Is it just me? I cannot focus properly on work until I have cleared my email inbox to empty - even if half the things that were in it are now on my to-do list!

Do they mean they’re going to publish 8,000 assemblies of words that will be a literary Frankenstein’s monster composed of passages of real authors’ work?

I tend not to form a view for a while, so for now I’ll say Matt Smith, followed by Tom Baker (my first Doctor). Ncuti is rising up the ranks fast, however.
Matt Smith.
Whovians:

Which one is your favourite Doctor?

I’m probably Tom Baker, but Ncuti Gatwa is an inspired choice…

A new study conducted over a long observation period (today) and involving a diverse subject pool (me) definitively shows that the sole function of Mondays is to undo completely the restorative effect of a weekend.

Another thing I love about the National Trust is using them in place of motorway services for long family trips. There’s almost always a cafe, decent loos and some *actual* fresh air.

I cannot adequately describe how much I love a National Trust secondhand bookshop. The anticipation of what I might find… The joy of scanning the shelves… The smell of the books… The enjoyment of the previous readers that is absorbed by each book. It’s a heady combination.

Thanks for a great week, Bluesky. It’s been like having a bunch of mates with me wherever I go.
