The United States has the fewest elevators in the rich world, with Canada only a bit ahead. We teamed up with @uytaelee.bsky.social of About Here Videos to investigate why, exactly, North America sucks at elevators.

That's exactly what it was!
The resulting text is 「が不正です。」
Which just means "is invalid". Not super helpful in this specific use case (it's an old bespoke MIDI converter from 2000 that I'm feeding MIDI files from an exporter I wrote), but I'm glad I have found a way to read these now at least.

That's exactly what it was!

Ok yeah so my theory is that this is SJIS being interpreted as Code page 437 (then Unicode)
Not sure if I can reconfigure the Windows Terminal to interpret/display in different encoding but I may just go some roundabout way and convert it from Unicode back to 437 and then see where to go from there

There's no substitute for meeting new ppl in person, and I try not to feel like I left the US too early (I actually didn't have much of a choice), but ngl, a bit sad that for the indefinite future I may never meet up with my US friends in the same manner again.

I had considered things like AccessKit for outside of Qt but there aren't really any C/C++ based UI libraries that integrate it. Godot, although being a game engine and not focused being a UI library, integrated it recently

I appreciate that Qt supports accessibility outside of the box for screen readers that targets native APIs on at least Windows/Mac/Linux. And that I should be able to hook into that in my custom UI. /

Been using it a whole lot more the past few weeks because of our& tracker project. Though most of the tracker editor post itself is custom 2D drawing stuff, encapsulated in a QOpenGLWidget.

I feel like Qt Designer (using it for Qt Widgets) is the closest thing we have to the old VB6 / WinForms way of doing things and cross platform and native. It has some really odd quirks but overall I've found it helpful over the years I've dipped in and out of it. /

People outside of America like to see it as "all Black Americans do is complain" but don't even want to have a scrap of empathy when you realize Black Americans keep doing their best to combat a system that continues to silence and disenfranchise them constantly. These people are not listening.

Part of the issue and why retro gaming/tech has such a problem with accepting awful folks is that some of them spent so many years making sure queer folks and furries weren't/aren't welcome and platforming awful folk that they can't tap into the wealth of queer/furry artists/creators/techs out there

There's a lot of quiet, determined resistance happening every day in LA, Minneapolis, Chicago, Lousiana, all throughout Texas, to slow down the kidnappers and protect and hide neighbors. It's not on TV.
