I finished reading this today. It is a great summary of the social, medical, and legal history of trans folk. It discusses the need for public education to go hand-in-hand with changes to legal recognition in order to bring lasting change using examples from around the world. Highly recommend 👌

The only people with a 'gender ideology' are those who want to deny that transgender people exist and want to prevent trans folk from functioning openly in society.

The metaphor of the phoenix is a strong one. Transition is very much the death of the old and rising of the new, and the challenges faced are well symbolised by fire.
