Hi! I'm Luna, a Filipina game designer 😊 I'm best known for being the first female #gamedev in the Philippines. I worked on:
- Anito: Defend A Land Enraged, the first 🇵🇭 computer game (Anino)
- The Awakening series (Boomzap)
- Mobile/web games for Altitude Games, where I'm currently Design Director

2 of my 3 sections are wrapping up this week. After my first term teaching game design, I am exhausted 😅 But also learned a lot about teaching in 2025: learning management systems, Zoom classes, students, all of it.

Next term has less load but I'm teaching game writing and level design. Excited!

We were just discussing this in class today! A student shared that after taking my game design class, she went back to play games in genres she didn't like, and realized how good those games were even if they weren't for her. And that she didn't have to like them to appreciate them. ❤️
This is the number one issue I find with junior game designers (and unfortunately, non-designers who think anyone can design). So many people cannot tell the difference between "a game I like" and "a game that's designed well" and they get REAL mad if you point out there's a difference
begging people to learn to separate “i like it” with “it’s good.”

i like some things that are objectively crap. you can admit that you do too. it’s fine

My students' games are nearing their final form. I'd forgotten the ebb and flow of it: the unlimited possibilities in the beginning, the furious creativity unleashed in prototyping, the hardships when you realize what's actually possible, the hump, then things come together and boom! Magic. #gamedev

Hey #gamedev! Crowdsourcing again: I'm teaching Game Writing next term to arts students and am looking for a no-code story engine that they can use. Twine is on my list; I used to use Inform 7 as well. Anything else I should look at that will help them write interactive narratives without coding?

Teaching 5-Minute Marvel in game design class today as we study emergent systems! Which hero is your favorite? I always pick Ms Marvel 🥊 (Love her, plus she supports everyone)

Thinking of doing NaNoWriMo this November, but instead of writing a novel, I'll learn Twine a little bit each day so I can teach it in my game writing course next term. I'll call it NaNoTwineMo. Yay or nay?

Up at 430am thinking of activity ideas to fill my seven-hour character and story class tomorrow... How's your Tuesday going 😴

First time to try @todoist.com as I had a bunch of schoolwork to rush, plus random tasks I never get around to doing. I liked their branding that it was a place for you to dump your to-dos so you can deal with them at the right time.

Well I just cleared today's list and it feels gooood #todoistzero

I posted my official gamescom asia recap/thanks on LinkedIn, so I'll post behind-the-scenes thoughts here instead 😜

Being session chair for Day 2 Stage 2 was super cool. I did a tech rehearsal the day before, and on the day, I introduced each session, ran Q&A after, and kept the flow on time. 1/4

An industry veteran and founder of the International Mobile Gaming Awards, Maarten Noyons, passed away recently.

Many of us who knew him have been posting tributes on LinkedIn and Facebook. As heartwrenching as this has been (I have been crying for days), it also reminded me...

I’m headed to gamescom asia next week in Bangkok!

I’ll be Session Chair for Day 2 on Stage 2, for the Game Publishing and Biz Strategies track. It’s my first time chairing, and I’m looking forward to supporting the speakers and learning from our conversations together.

Thank you once again @runpeeapp.bsky.social for your public service in telling us when the best time is during a movie to go pee. Today we watched One Battle After Another (almost 3 hours long) and your app was a godsend, as always 🙏

Also, damn good film.

Teaching remotely is something I'm still getting used to, but it's very cool to watch students in breakout rooms draw mockups of their game ideas on a Zoom whiteboard in real time 🎨

One thing I didn't fully understand when agreeing to teach three days a week (at two schools, three different sections, three different campuses) was the amount of prep work needed before and after each class. From slides to learning management systems to assignments, there's so much to do! 😱

Today was my first day as Faculty of Multimedia Arts, College of Architecture and Design at Enderun Colleges! 🎉 I've always loved teaching and am so happy to get back to it again. I'm excited to share my game design experience with the next generation. #gamedesign #gamedev #highereducation

I talk everything career in this podcast episode with Sophie Vo, including the origins of Altitude Games, why I left, and what's next for me. Even if we recorded this weeks ago this conversation is still true ❤️

June and July went by in a blur. I spoke at Beyond Game Jam, did game design workshops for Globe and Philippine Game Dev Expo, and gave a game writing lecture at De La Salle University. Plus a bunch of amazing Women in Games Asia events which deserve its own post! (1/2)

#gamedev help: what's a good tool for non-coders to prototype game ideas? Am teaching game design next sem and I'd like to give the students a way to make playables, without them having to learn to code (they're arts students). I've Googled but would appreciate your tried and tested recommendations 😊

I've been trying to work on two different talks (one about game writing, another a game design workshop). On some days I blaze through with tons of ideas in 30 minutes. Today nothing was happening. So I stood up and went away from the keyboard

I spent all day doing everything BUT the talks... (1/2)

Husband and I just started playing Pokémon Arceus! It's my first Pokémon game (not counting Pokémon Go, which I played briefly when it first came out). Took me this long to give it a go even when every gamer I knew loved the franchise. Happy to report it's never too late and I UNDERSTAND NOW
