Greetings, new followers who aren't bots!

Brief synopsis:

I'm a nerdy event planner with fantasies of writing or arting full time if I were to ever win the lotto. I'm allergic to the sun (THE SUN!!!) and am a delicate alpine flower who would REALLY love to live above the 50th parallel...

Wielding power over the powerless is the mark of the bully. Wielding strength against the weak is cowardice. Real strength is when you have such power, but choose to use it in defence of the vulnerable instead. That is the mark of the true warrior.

I can't say what had traffic in such a fustercluck today, but I CAN say that it took me the entirety of Queen's "A Night at the Opera" to get the < 3 miles home.

UPDATE!

I hid behind the house to block out the street lights and all the lights of downtown Indianapolis, and was able to pick up a slight pink glow to the northeast (with the camera).

Tomorrow, if it comes back, I'm going to drive to a slightly darker location.

I got a message from parking ops that I had to move my car or it would be towed, because they were closing the parking lot. So, now I am parked about a half mile away from my building.

At least I got to take a lovely walk in the snow.

Seriously, if you have a Sikh gurdwara in your area please let people know about this. We have at least one here in Detroit Metro that I know of. Bonus is that Sikhs are, on the whole, extremely rad people.
Folks, if you are hungry, please contact your local Sikh gurdwara. Or just show up for langar, which most gurdwaras do several times a week, for a free meal. Lots also do weekly or monthly drives giving out groceries.

No conversion necessary. Feeding anyone who is hungry is a key part of Sikhism.
A lady on TikTok has been calling churches pretending to be a mother with a baby who needs formula and several churches turned her away. But wouldn’t you know that when she called a Mosque (Islamic Center of Charlotte) they immediately said yes.

I also finally harvested and shelled the bear paw runner beans. They're so pretty!

In addition to cracking walnuts and meeting up with some folks to discuss grants, I finished planting my mini-daffodil and (springtime) crocus bulbs before everything freezes tomorrow night, and also put the garden to bed for the year.

So. Many. Tomatoes.

I cracked some of the walnuts I collected last week. I only got a third of the way through the bag, but I think I've improved my technique. Look! They look so cool!

I think I've reached the point where I need to stop adding to the tree, or it will tip into the "too much" territory.

I still need to build out some of the spots to give it more dimension.

After years of online ordering, I finally got to go there, this summer, and it is MAGICAL! And we can keep the magic going by caving to our need for delicious tea blends and ordering ourselves a lil' something from @fridaytea.com
This fall has been an extra slow one for small businesses out here, and the tea house is $3.7k shy of where we need to be to make rent before late fees hit this month.

All this to say, if you have some tea shopping to do or friends to point our way today, we'd sure appreciate it!

A couple of the tiny maples I rescued from the lawn, this year, putting on a fashion show before bedding down for the winter.

Plus a tomato plant that was growing a really cool heirloom tomato before the asshole squirrels stole it.

I figured that, after bombarding you with all of my progress pictures of the embroidered moss and lichen, I should show the picture that kind of inspired it.

I took this a couple of months ago, in the gardens at West Baden.

TIL that the fire alarm in my building now also does its little reading of instructions in Spanish, which is pretty nifty.

(Don't worry, it was just a fire drill - no actual emergency.)

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.
November 3, 2025 at 11:57 PM
This is awful, and I hope CN gets a LOT of blowback for it.
thank you for all the support; the statement from our union is now live here with some more reporting.

now that this is public I can confirm that the majority of today’s layoffs were women of color. there are no longer any Black women working at Teen Vogue.
