Being a science communicator sometimes means you'll be chugging along on a writing project and need to double check the details of a study on urban lizards, and end up googling things that your search history will never recover from.
A google search for "princeton vaughan lizard toes" and the top two results are a young man with a mask and glasses next to the title "learnin' lizards!" and a researchgate article for "Geometric Morphometrics Reveal Shape Differences in the ..."

A white plastic spoon that has three Giant Pacific Octopus paralarvae (Enteroctopus dofleini) in it. They are very small, have transparent skill, dark red organs and chromatophores and black beady eyes.

A close up of a southern bobtail squid (Euprymna tasmanica). It has a fierce look in its eyes, and its arms are spread out, as if it is about to strike. Its flesh is a translucent blue, and it is cover in dark red, almost black chromatophores. On its mantle and around its eyes, is a yellow and green iridescence.

It’s baby octopus season 🐙🦑

Saw this little guy last night with the Salish Sea School in Anacortes, WA as part of their free community dock walk I volunteer as an interpreter for.

We can tell it is a giant pacific octopus from the single line of chromatophores on each arm.

No animal can nail the whole "spectacular creature" thing as well as the whole "a little cutie patootie" thing like a bobtail squid can.

A Berry's Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi) sitting on the sandy sea floor. Its arms are all together and going forwards. Its gins a flapping. On its head, around its mantle opening and especially on its arms, it is a mix of iridescent blue, cyan, green and yellow. It is covered in black chromatophores all over, and the rest of its flesh is translucent or off white. A Berry's Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi) buried in the sand. Just part of its head and mantle are sticking out of the sand, with its eyes peering out. Its pupils are a horizontal line, so it looks like it is sleepy and squinting. It has a little bit of sand on top of its head. It is mostly purple with lots of of purple chromatophores. Its eyes are silvery, and around its eyes is some iridescent cyan, blue and purple.
