NEW: Gregory Bovino is exactly who E.B. White — author of 'Charlotte's Web' — warned us about.

DHS named its North Carolina anti-immigrant effort "Operation Charlotte's Web." In 1940, White wrote of the "smell" that "rises" from those who "adjust to fascism" over freedom.

Both parties should support this. Using AI to generate a video of a candidate saying something he didn’t say should be illegal. Especially since many voters think it is real. I will condemn any candidate from either party who does this.

We investigated -- and found little evidence to support the government’s claims about Tren de Aragua.

"Shibboleth for douchebaggery" is a very fine phrase.
Honestly believe that using 'alpha' like this is a foolproof Shibboleth for douchebaggery.

Normal human beings in finance (all three of them) do not do this.
*maximum alpha at 1.25x speed* continuously lives on in my head, unfortunately.

A recent post by @davidmoralespvd.bsky.social linked to a story on the PVD city council further limiting police cooperation with ICE. It was met with a torrent of ugly comments, the link disabled, and finally David's post taken down. Here's the good news in today's Providence Journal:

Good news!
1. JD Vance dismissed Tuesday's election as “a couple of elections in blue states.”

But there were significant contests around the country, including in purple and red states.

From coast to coast, voters rejected the MAGA agenda.

Let's review.

Although Democratic victories in New York, Virginia, New Jersey, and California dominated the headlines, significant contests were held across the nation.

Surprisingly, Dick Cheney gets exactly the obituary he deserves.
"The current iteration of the Republican Party is a direct consequence of a political environment that was already in decay because of what Dick Cheney forcefully and intentionally normalized."

The effect in the US is likely to be the same as it has been overseas: donors, candidates, and campaign workers will wonder whether the benefit of participation outweigh the risk of harassment and persecution. When voting starts, the opposition party will already be at a steep disadvantage.
David A. Graham writes in The Atlantic about the various ways Trump could rig the midterms. He notes that modern autocrats don’t cancel elections. They hold unfair elections to fool people into thinking they’re not living in a dictatorship. It’s called “competitive authoritarianism.” (Gift link)
