An intro for news faces 👋!

I'm a presidential historian, author of a couple of books including *Making the Presidency: John Adams and the Precedents That Forged the Republic*, and Executive Director of the George Washington Presidential Library.

And I have a four-legged sidekick who is my heart.
The author of the Monroe Doctrine (John Quincy Adams) also said:

“[We] go not abroad in search of monsters to destroy.”

So excited for my buddy @mkn.bsky.social about this next project!
BIG NEWS, FRIENDS!

It is a quirk of the writing life that while you are finishing the current book, you are pitching the next one.

I am delighted that I will be working once again with Kathy Belden at Scribner, and returning to Civil War studies (and Texas!) for this exciting new project.

It was such a delight to participate in the Rule of Law Summit hosted by the Society for the Rule of Law. Jonathan Rauch, Greg Jacob, and I spoke about norms, customs, and the founding, and the conversation was moderated by Jay Nordlinger. I was honored to share a stage with them.
