Opportunistic snap of a Fleecy Jumping #spider (Pseudeuophrys lanigera) which has taken up residence on our front door (least I think it is, corrections welcome!). It's tiny, about 2mm head to tail! Will try to get better 📸 on a day when I've more 🪫. #wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #arachnids

In today's Budget, the Chancellor spoke about building the economy “brick by brick” but left out the very foundation that underpins it all: nature.

The same Government that promised to restore our natural world appears instead to have wiped it from their agenda.

The Chancellor wants to "boost trade, increase investment, and champion innovation", but is failing to fix one of the principal causes of the economic crisis: Brexit. The Government must urgently repair our relationship with Europe, or else forthcoming Budgets will continue to bear the brunt.

Cost of extending the fuel duty cut plus cancelled uprating next year: £2.4 billion.

Cost of freezing rail fares next year: £145 million.

Sixteen times more expensive to maintain the fuel duty cut/freeze than to freeze rail fares

Imagine how much fares could be *cut* by ending car fuel subsidies.

🚨This is a scandal! The government lost thousands of public responses to their railway consultation.

That means that if you want to end the private rolling stock ripoff, or cut fares, or end competition law in the railway, your voice was silenced.

The review makes clear that dogs are suffering because the puppy trade remains badly under-regulated.

We need stronger protections and proper enforcement to stop this harm.

Across Bristol, people are at breaking point

Bills keep going up. Rents are spiralling. Families are struggling to put food on the table.

This must be a cost-of-living budget to make our system fairer and, most importantly, to make life affordable again

The UK government continues to ignore their suffering, refusing to ban lobsters from being boiled alive.

Lobsters are legally recognised as sentient creatures, meaning they feel. They can learn, remember, and, crucially, suffer.

Why are they not protected against cruelty?

New analysis by non-profit climate group Possible today:

Private jet passengers typically pay less than 1% of the cost of their flights in taxes, compared to 26%-54% paid by economy passengers on standard flights

Loopholes mean private jetters often pay little or no APD, nor fuel duty on kerosene.

Campaigners point out Rosebank’s emissions would rival 28 of the world’s poorest countries combined and we already have more oil and gas than it is safe to burn.

Leaders need to reject Rosebank and deliver a fast, fair transition that protects people, not polluters.

In 2023/24, UK govt gave £78.2bn tax relief on pension contributions.

32% benefitted 29.2m basic rate (20%) taxpayers.

68% went to higher and additional rate (40% and 45%) tax payers.

Equalizing tax relief at 20% to all, leaves govt £14.5bn spare to alleviate poverty.
This is how Rachel Reeves could deliver a progressive budget

Pretty concerning since so many people who have #LongCovid don’t know they have it. And those who do know, may not be believed.

Add the likelihood that not many anesthesiologists will understand LC or this and we end up with “less than” care for many.

Hoping they manage to get the word out!
Did you know #LongCovid heavily impacts anesthesia response, and because of that, these patients need specific requirements and protocols before receiving anesthesia? Neither do I. Anesthesiologist and neurologist Tihamér Molnar described his research with Long Covid patients in Hungary.
