Accidentally caught a couple minutes of an episode of Grimm on TV, and they were like "Whoa this is some kind of Old English manuscript from 1217" and then showed some Book of Kells-looking script 😅 So much wrong with one sentence

I always tell students that university is a rare opportunity to study things that are interesting rather than useful.
The five classes trend is fun to see the value of liberal arts education.

You can see that the most meaningful/impactful classes for folks typically don’t have anything to do with basic training for some job.

Just woke up from a dream in which I was teaching again, two classes of undergrads. I miss it so much 😭 I was never someone who thought I'd seek a TT job, but now that I'm out of academia entirely I have moments of grief--this is the most intense it's been! I feel I've let my past self down.

It's last-minute, but I'm giving a talk today about #DHmakes and craft and what the humanities can do in a crisis from 12:15-1:15 Pacific (3:15-4:15 Eastern). All are welcome, Zoom registration link below!
Craftivism in a Crisis: Making the Humanities Matter When It's All Falling Apart | Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis
The longstanding rhetoric of the "crisis of the humanities" has been largely drowned out by an omnicrisis equally affecting the sciences, the stability of the university, and society as a whole. What ...

Spent the better part of the evening sorting through a pile of quarters my dad's been saving over the years, separating state quarters & other interesting ones out. Now I've started sorting by state, and am excited to compare the distribution in this collection to the dist of actual coins minted 👀

Yeah... I could kinda look past the oil industry propaganda in the first season, found the main character's emotional intelligence an interesting departure from tropes, and got a kick out of the old folks home side plot. S2 has been mostly dull & overly horny-- the E9 the roommate plot was *horrid*
Landman season 2 episode 9 is peak MAGA propaganda. It’s always been heavy, with anti-climate crisis nonsense - as you would expect in a show about the oil industry. But this one built up an Everest of cliche that made it just laughable.

You are ABSOLUTELY NOT going to regret listening to this bird:
A male rock ptarmigan (Lagopus muta) in winter plumage.

Ptarmigan is from Gaelic 'tarmachan' meaning "croaker". The p- was added when people mistakenly assumed it was a Greek word.

A bird forever warning people: "A werewolf!" (just in case of werewolves).
