BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

Here we go again, adaptation as the solution - even though IPCC says clearly that there are hard and soft limits to adaptation, so we have to reduce emissions. Not to say that we don't need to adapt, but it is not an alternative. The US is knowingly being misleading to avoid admitting the science.

A century ago, there was none of this woke food safety. Listeria and Cronobacter contamination was just a fact of life! Sure, way more people died horribly, but
USDA has eliminated two food safety advisory committees for microbiological contamination and meat inspection. Most recently, they had been reviewing regulatory approaches in response to the fatal Listeria outbreak from Boar’s Head meats and fatal Cronobacter contamination in powdered infant formula
USDA eliminates two food safety advisory committees
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has eliminated two committees that advise it on food safety, the agency said on Friday, raising concerns about government oversight of the food supply as the Trump administration seeks to downsize the federal bureaucracy and slash costs.

At the DC #standupforscience today.

The question was “Why are you here?” She came up with this on her own! (I helped her with the spelling)

So proud of her! #standupforscience2025

Did you know? The NOAA/NWS Storm Prediction Center issues daily fire weather outlooks as well as convective weather outlooks. These products discuss conditions that could support ignition and/or spread of wildfires + the threat level of those conditions.

Donald Trump’s cuts to Medicaid will blow a massive hole in our state budget and leave thousands without care.

There’s a storm coming from Washington. Republicans and Democrats should work together to protect our state from Trump.

Defend our people, not the President.

This is not a surprise. We know what causes CO₂ to increase in the atmosphere and we know how to stop climate change. We just don’t want to.

Salt caves 2000 feet underground in New Mexico hold the radioactive nuclear waste from US defense projects. It's the world's only deep geologic repository.

And DOGE says it has terminated the very large office in Carlsbad that oversees it. Details 👇

The Department of Energy office in Carlsbad, New Mexico, is specifically set up to handle emergency situations at a nuclear storage facility. DOGE says it terminated the lease.

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Easy to lose this in the noise of the day, but the prime minister of Canada just said the US president, leader of the global hegemon, wants to soften us up economically so he can annex us.

That is one of the most remarkable statements, and realities, in our history.

Another dumb move by the Trump administration. Air quality monitoring in Beijing was transformational.
U.S. Embassies Halt Air Quality Monitoring Abroad (Gift Article)
Since 2008, embassies and other diplomatic posts had been publishing data about local air quality. In many countries, it was the only reliable source of such information.

Adding to what Dan and others have said: Measuring air quality at diplomatic posts in places like Beijing, Delhi, and Lahore, using EPA standard technology, and openly sharing it with the public, has been a force pushing along progress toward better air quality in all those locations.
Big (bad) news: the US Embassy air monitoring program webpage has been taken down: www.airnow.gov/internationa...

This erases ~17 years of a critical data source at ~80 US diplomatic posts around the world. Critically for the health of thousands of foreign services officers, critical for research..
