My dad is decluttering and dumped a bunch of stuff at my place today. This painting's ~1.2m high and the TV gives you an approximate age lol. There's some water damage and the subject matter's a bit trite, but I feel like teen me was right to worry.

🚨Big News!🚨

Daria Kasatkina has announced on Instagram that she has been approved to receive Australian citizenship and will start playing under the Australian flag.

Pretty major announcement considering the personal and political implications.

Not once have I ever read a book and thought "wow what an interesting plot development to have the student sleep with their professor"

I went to the Science Museum yesterday and as well as having a ball with my nearly four year old in their amazing child spaces (god love free London museums) I was utterly charmed by this caption.

i was literally trying to decide what tanith lee books i should catch up on and now this info about the Tales From a Flat Earth series make it the obvious choice EXCEPT it's out of print and only available as either wildly expensive secondhand copies or as audiobook...

this context for unacknowledged similarities between Sandman and previous works by Tanith Lee... idek man. depressing.
This, by Matthew Boroson, is pretty convincing. I knew exactly none of it before reading the original post on Facebook.

The publishing industry publishes many hundreds of books about people who live in lighthouses.

(Almost no one does.)

But very few about people who live on council estates.

(Many people do.)

To buck the trend I shall be writing a story about a council estate of lighthouses.

i'm reading Don't Bite the Sun by Tanith Lee and the whole section about creativity, where they all take their directions from robots, and when the protagonist is told her film has too much plot because ppl just want to tune in and out mindlessly - feels so relevant. 🥲

Welcome to my thread of scifi/fantasy + adjacent book recs with some flavor of queer characters! Before we begin, a few caveats. This thread will be of books I have personally read and enjoyed. There will be a separate thread of books I have on my radar but have yet to read. All opinions are my own.
