Today marks the beginning of Men’s Mental Health Month.

Mental health amongst men is often seen as a taboo subject. It’s felt there’s a stigma around talking about men’s mental health, as if talking about it, or admitting to being upset or struggling with our mental health is a sign of weakness.

It doesnt stop there. Did you know "zombies" are an African creation?

Zombie comes from the Haitian creole "zanbi," which itself comes from the Kikongo word "nzambi" that translates to "spirit of a dead person.'

It embodied the spirit of haitian slavery. Body is alive, the soul is not

Wanna hear a scary story?

The first American vampire was Black.

Seriously.

78 years before Dracula appeared in American literature, there was "The Black Vampyre" by Uriah D'Arcy.

It was written in 1819 as an antislavery critique and the effect the Haitian Revolution had on the States

It’s been really disheartening to see the things people say about those who use SNAP. Many seem to have little understanding of why the program exists in the first place.

Brilliant video on autumn colors and photosynthesis.

Reminds me that molecular biology is the big blind spot in my scientific 'general knowledge'. Need to rectify that but I have no idea where to start.

Astrocytes share the same electrical properties as neurons. They spread electrical signals but don’t spike. So, while only about half the cells spike occasionally, all of them continuously transmit electrical influences. Which, then, is the tail and which is the dog?

Gucci Mane opening up about his diagnoses is both vulnerable and commendable. It takes a lot of courage to speak out. I’m glad he has the support and resources he needs. We need more space for these conversations, without the stigma and shame.
