Our paper describing the genetic stratification of inshore and offshore northern shrimp (Pandalus borealis) in Iceland just came out! RADseq data was collected from samples across Arnarfjörður bay in the North-West, Skjálfandi bay in the North.

30 years ago today (25 Feb 1995), the last reliable sighting of a Slender-billed Curlew occurred in Morocco.

Last year, a paper calculated concluded that there is a 99.6% chance that the Slender-billed Curlew is extinct, and that it likely died off around 1995.

This is a "reindeer cyclone", a defensive behavior that has been observed in herds of reindeer, even in captivity.

The fawns and older animals are at the center, the strongest animal in the outer lanes.

The point is to confuse the brains of predators accustomed to stalking a single outlier.
