Living with Windows has always been a calculus of how useful it is professionally vs. the amount of unbearable shit you gotta disable with a script and I think we reached a tipping point where it’s majority unbearable shit.

I think the way for artists to combat ai slop in 2026 is to lean hard into showing process & WIP. No ai user is going to generate days or weeks of work in progress images & post them because they want to entirely slip the work part.

Embrace the process & let everyone see it.

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you HAVE TO WATCH this news story. You actually can’t make this up. Ford claims without evidence that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data.

Safe bike-lanes mean business.
Annex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanes
Stores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes ...

there was a period in the old indie days where we would put like “more games!” menu in our games where we would be like “if you like this try these!” and just list the names of your friends games or other indie games that were similar the player might enjoy.

might be a cool thing to bring back

This. Spec work of any kind is anti-labour and should not be legal.

Also it isn't something creatives can just "not do," there are tons of artists who need the work and can't pass up the chance. It's a catch-22, needing change by the very people it benefits... or government regulation, please?
I've heard from a LOT of people that larian demands an especially lengthy and involved, totally unpaid writing test from narrative applicants and: can we not do that. Can we have some basic respect for applicants' time and not lean on fame/desirability to exploit them
I know this because they tried to recruit me and I strongly considered it but they’re also a “do an unpaid writing test where you have to also make it playable” company so that’s not something I vibe with

I'm not super up with the discourse, but, is the difference between AAA and indie / whatever just the difference between who is labouring vs. who owns the IP?

I installed Powertoys like ages ago and using em dashes on Windows is super easy—I use them all the time, since well before LLM's were a thing. I am very annoyed that my attentive use of punctuation would make my writing come off as "AI-ish." Screw that
are we still on about em dashes and ai. imo human writers should just use the em dashes even harder. we should be out here pummeling out those em dashes like we're emily dickinson

“Large projects will rightly grab headlines as cranes rise across our skyline, but we shouldn’t overlook the vital and complementary role of the small convenience stores experiencing their own development boom.”
My column today: Ten new convenience stores opened this year in downtown Winnipeg. These seeds of urban renewal will support the success of several major projects in development, by helping to create a fine-grain and walkable neighbourhood around them. www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/anal...

An easy way to explain luddites:

Textile manufacturers brought in machines that could do in an hour what would have taken 12 hours by hand.

And then, tried to keep paying the now 12x more productive workers the same wages as before.

That's it, that was the problem luddites had. Not complex.

Genuinely feels like there's been a coup within the Liberal party thanks to Carney and his bros.

Not to say Trudeau's Liberals were much better (they bought a pipeline!) but Carney is a full-blown red tory and I'm shocked more Liberals aren't outraged their party has been usurped like this.
Super cool that we've got a deal for a path towards a pipeline that's tied to a carbon capture project, as if that makes it okay

when carbon capture one of the most expensive and least effective options for addressing climate change, and oil companies often use it to EXTRACT MORE OIL!!!!
