It's not just about pronouns. It's about respecting our bodies as *our* bodies. It's about allowing us the medicine to take care of ourselves.

It's about being neither disgusted nor fetishising us but treating us as people.

It's about being what we say we are, not "the best of both worlds".

18th-century civil servant who spent months of the year touring the countryside being rude about innkeepers.

Ok, this I can live with.
Well, now I'm an English professor...

On the one hand, wedding scenes cry out for lavish descriptions of food.

On the other hand, can I afford another rabbit-hole of inventing an entire food culture?

Was trying to explain 00s secondary school homophobia to a teenage cousin today and it was like I was speaking in Icelandic to her.
okay going by the tv show where the teenager coming out as gay has universal support in 1987 I’m starting to think people don’t know just how *recent* any level of societal acceptance was and that being under the age of 35 means you can’t process a time when it wasn’t a settled issue

I do wonder if anyone’s ever done any research into rich activists getting so deep into a good cause that they spin right around into bigotry. does seem to happen a disproportionate amount

Pantsing a scene can be so revealing. Just letting the characters talk and pull out themes in your writing you didn't know were there (and will probably have to reckon with further down the plot).
I introduced two ad hoc elderly lady characters as counsellors to pad the numbers and now they are going fully chaos aunt on one of my protagonists about their Feelings

No matter how hard I try, the pantsing always gets me.
Me: *trying to plot a council of war scene*

Shortcloak: Oh yeah, did I mention that we're yearning here?

Thorn: Yes. Yearning.

Me: OK, we can yearn at the war council, that's fine.

Thorn: Burly, serious yearning.

Me:

Me: Of course, lord princess.

Had to think about this one but my origin story book is probably the (almost) complete omnibus set of Cadfael books my parents got me to stop me finishing my Christmas book by Boxing Day like I did every year

Went on to do a PhD in medieval saints' lives & write daft monastic dark fantasy stories 🤷
Back home, and found my Christmas present from when i was about 10:

The Cambridge Encyclopedia.

It will surprise none of my followers to learn this book is my origin story.

I've reached the "cold spicy coconut rice on toast for breakfast" stage of Christmas leftovers and I'm pretty happy with my life choices.

Hey, fair warning for any people who programme lit events/festivals. Convicted stalker Sarah Stovell is publishing her books under the name of Mollie Kendrick now. She specfically stalked a writer she met on retreat for FIFTEEN YEARS.

Boxing Day writing is reading over the WIP novel so far. It's been a few weeks break from it and, actually, I'm pretty happy with the first fifth or so I have written.

I also found a whole chariot tournament I'd forgotten I'd put in, which was fun.

Met a ginger cat with a slight wobble in its back legs that made it almost do an anime girl run, and there must be some sort of reverse catgirl isekai where an anime girl gets zapped into the body of a completely mundane cat and gets to do normal cat stuff instead of being sexualised all day.
