Wake up call for funding agencies: "The question is, which costs more: the research being funded, or the application process itself?"
"How can funders avoid crossing the Szilard point?"

The Szilard point is "the threshold at which the total cost of competing for a grant equals (or surpasses) the value of the available funding."
Point of no returns: researchers are crossing a threshold in the fight for funding
With so little money to go round, the costs of competing for grants can exceed what the grants are worth. When that happens, nobody wins.

By 2024, #CRediT information was included in nearly 850K pubs (incl preprints, conference papers) — around 22% of the 3.7M pubs for which full text was available that were recorded last year in Digital Science’s Dimensions, a database of scholarly publications.

10 years since CRediT was introduced, >20% adoption (of full text in Dimensions). Now, we need to build on this to comprehensively integrate CRediT in metadata and make sure the taxonomy evolves to remain fit for purpose. doi.org/10.1038/d415...

There is no reason why systematic reviews can't be open. The data used for synthesis is *already* open and there are many excellent open source tools that can facilitate the easy sharing of analysis scripts.
