Assistant Professor of Media Studies, Emerson College. UT Austin alum. I spend my time yelling about platforms & capitalism. Unionize.
This is all heinous but “inclusive pedagogy” is actively insane
If anyone is curious about the current list of search terms being used by right wing activist organizations to harass university professors, here's a public records request I received today from Mike Howell of the Heritage Foundation. Not intimidating or meant to curtail by my speech at all, right?

I’m tired of seeing takes claiming that educators who voice concerns about GenAI are burying our heads in the sand, or failing to adapt, or choosing to be misinformed about GenAI’s potential, or are ignorant of other technological shifts that have happened throughout history.

At this juncture I’d like to point out:
* we’re on the brink of a golden age of medical healing
* there’s enough money in the world to solve every problem in the world
* a united approach could stop the climate crisis
But a small group of sociopaths seeking personal power are going to throw it away.

This is why treating schools like job centers where employers can externalize the cost of training will always be a disservice to the public and the economy's long-term health.
its a cycle that happens a lot. Industry gets hot. everyone is told to go into it. by the time most of them graduate its been "hot"long enough for the labor pool to severely outstrip openings

Curtailing people’s ability to read widely and carefully, to locate, assess, and compare different sources for themselves, and to write in their own voice about what they find and what it means, is arguably more effective than censorship. It is also one of the most obvious effects of generative AI.

No lawmaker in Congress should be able to own, buy, and sell individual stocks.

We need to ban congressional stock trading—and I've got a bill for that.

I may be tired and a little hoarse, but as I said again and again on the Senate floor, this is a moment where we cannot afford to be silent, when we must speak up.

This is why fan theorizing online is such an amazing, concerning development in contemporary TV
just read a Severance fan theory so insane that if it’s true I’ll be annoyed I spoiled it for myself and if it’s false I’ll be annoyed they missed an amazing idea
