The German Research Foundation, possibly the most important funding body for academic research in Germany, is now not only allowing the use of AI to write applications, they‘ll also allow it to evaluate said applications. Only prerequisite is that one makes this transparent. It‘s a farce.

Seriously if you’re European and you didn’t have the same robust defence of freedom of speech when Germany banned the entry of Ghassan Abu-Sittah because he was going to talk about Israel’s genocidal violence, then kindly sit this one out and reflect on your racially motivated selective outrage.

This was long in the making. The new deportation rules will profoundly alter the CEAS & further undermine the right to asylum, reify a logic that treats humans as cargo,& bring about a new era of migration diplomacy, where non-EU countries cannot reject deportations of their citizens any longer.
The EU plans to ease deportations of asylum seekers, even to countries they’ve never lived in.

Ultimately, the plans can be seen as contributing to a new era of carceral EU migration “management” in West Africa.

no surprises here: a Berlin court has confirmed that the "political activity ban" on Ghassan Abu-Sittah 1,5years ago was against the law – I remember being on a train to Berlin when those news broke; infuriating like almost every encounter with the city in the last two years
