British Library staff asked for a decent pay. Instead they got ‘a few money-saving present ideas’, such as ‘consider not giving presents this holiday season’. They are on strike this week. I wrote about it for @lrb.co.uk. www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/de...

Loving the Supergirl trailer!

Milly Alcock is a great actor, and she'll be amazing in this!

I've had a few videos on my timeline recently of people making their own butter. "That looks fun," I thought. "I'll give it a go."
And a go was given.
Reader, it was not fun. It didn't work as well as it should (nor was as easy as the videos made it seem).
Lurpak will continue to be the daily go-to.

Checked Hotel Chocolat's website and confirmed that a local branch has an item in stock. "I'll pay now and do a click & collect," I thought.
They added a 95p collect fee to the basket!
Like they're doing a supermarket run!
I'll ring the branch tomorrow and ask them to put one aside for me, instead.

NEXT TO NORMAL
The pro-shot is coming to National Theatre @ Home on 2nd Dec, and a local company is mounting a production in late March/early April (I'm auditioning). An incredible musical about mental health.

Sainsbury's delivery today.

"We’ve tried to pick the best substitute for the unavailable items below."

Sainsbury's Ginger 100g
substituted with
Sainsbury's Smoked Garlic Paste

So, the best substitute for fresh ginger isn't chopped ginger or ginger paste, but a totally unrelated vegetable paste.🤨

Very much enjoying the celebrity Traitors series, but it's not quite hitting the highs of the non-celeb version, for me.

Media reports suggest they're getting paid a £40,000 fee each and it doesn't matter who wins, because whoever wins, a charity (or charities) takes home the whole pot.
