"A horned and tusked purple thing went racing along the ridge to my right pursued by a hairless orange-skinned creature with long claws and a forked tail. Both were wailing in different keys.

I nodded. It was just one damned thing after another."

So it's Black History Month and that means I think it's a good time to get familiar with Mike Pondsmith, if you're not already.

When you see R. Talsorian Games, that's him. When you see Cyberpunk 2077, that's his world.

Mekton, Castle Falkenstein, also him.

Folks outside SF/F don't know that Asimov was a sexual harasser because while he was alive fandom thought it was cute (up to and including Asimov being invited to give a lecture on "The Power of Positive Posterior Pinching" at Worldcon, which he, wisely, declined).

This is only related in a sideways manner, but: the story of any small slice of humanity is the story of humanity, just boiled down and distilled. So:

In 2020, we had a lot of conversations about harassment at SF/F conventions, and Isaac Asimov came up several times.
the Epstein files are really devastating because they remind me of how many girls and women miss out on professional opportunities, mentorship and careers because of how many powerful, rich and influential men only view girls and women — and interactions with them — through the lens of sex

I miss an NHL where wins mattered more than how you lose. Vegas is in first place in their division ahead of 4 teams with more wins. They are in 24th place by wins. I guess gamblers like it more this way and that's most important to the league.

Hey if your FLGS carries our games, they can instantly get you the PDF copy FREE!!
And it's not just our games - hundred of publishers participate in the Bits & Mortar program.
It's simple for them to sign up and all they need from you is an email address.
Point them to bits-and-mortar.com
As a former retailer, I am flabbergasted when people come to me as Evil Hat's CS rep asking for their Bits and Mortar PDFs because their FLGS "has heard of it, but __________ (fill in the blank with)

it's too hard.
they never bothered to get an account.
they aren't interested in in participating."

February's series is an all time classic.
"We drove over to Kenni Roi's and got us a bucket of Kentucki Fried Lizzard Partes and another bucket of weak, salty-tasting beer... Then we hit the road again. A tyrannosaurus leaped before us, hesitated for a moment, then went on its way, off to the left."

Stunning setbacks. Back below the starting place. I hate the way this is phrased as it seems to imply women don't make commercial movies but it's another drop in opportunities for women to be hired on anything that will get promoted.

Reminder! TRUE NORTH (this giant book about #AlphaFlight) is now available worldwide on Amazon! But because I detest Amazon, I’m donating 25% of what I make until the end of January to charity.

If this gets 100 shares, that goes up to 30%.

Tier-a-mid. Tier ranking but limited to n items in the nth level of the tier. So only 1 can be 'top' tier, 2 can be second, etc. I feel like this should already be a portmanteau in use but if not, I claim naming it.

I know a lot of people talk about "Ken Griffey's swing", "John Olerud's swing" but for my money there is nothing more beautiful than Alejandro Kirk:

- 5'7 and built like a Welsh corgi
- basically drops halfway into a splits on each swing
- each swing is a Street Fighter "Shooooryuken" uppercut

Today in 1983 Stanislav Petrov saved the human race.

On duty at the Soviet early warning command centre, he refused to warn superiors of radar reports of an incoming US strike. It proved to be a false alarm. If the Soviets had responded it would have been all out nuclear war.
