In the past few years I have read much more non-fiction than fiction. And of all kinds - though travel, food, adventure and histories dominate. Most leans toward the academic, but still has a pleasing narrative. I need new suggestions please.

My Bluesky feed is turning into reposts if the vilest things people have posted in the other place. Though not the only reason, I left there because those horrors dominated my feed. Now I might have to leave Bluesky.

Why is it always crazy in Florida? US representative Carlos Giménez of Florida is now talking about military strikes on Canada! Why do Canadians even contemplate travelling to such an awful state let alone return every year.

Canadians across the country are rallying behind a petition to revoke Elon Musk's citizenship.
He wasn't born in Canada. He represents profoundly anti-democratic values.
In Canada citizens can present these petitions to Canada’s parliament.
I support them.

30 years ago dad had a moving truck full of my recently-passed grandparents belongings dropped at my first home thinking I would need it to furnish the house. 30 years and 1000s of miles from that location I am still trying to sort it all. Generational stuff is hard. Now I also have parents stuff.

It appears that the only demographic still overwhelmingly positive about the Nazification of America are teenaged/early 20s men. Big Balls to rule them all.

I’m working with a team of graduate students to salvage a Canadian Archaeological Assoc meeting nobody wanted to host. It’s going great. Students seem to be relishing chance to make decisions, interact with colleagues and pick up new skills. Professional events are opportunities for mentorship too.
