The same people claiming that immigrants took their jobs are releasing potentially millions of extremely qualified workers into the job market all at once.
I think a point that needs to be made about mass Federal layoffs is that it's going to make it harder for everyone to find a job when they want to. These are all very qualified people who took jobs in the Federal government because they were motivated, and now you're competing with them.
"If the job is not essential...obviously they should not be on the public payroll."
What does this mean?
Trump's EO calls for focusing reductions in force for employees deemed "non-essential" during a shutdown. That is 800,000 employees. The want a permanent government shutdown.

Regarding the Delta airline crash, I can assure you that as a vector-borne disease researcher I have no idea how it happened or how it could have been prevented. Maybe that should be left the the experts rather than app developers who I assure you also do not know.

When I mentioned the thousands of skilled works in the federal government losing jobs I had someone comment “your friends need to learn to code” and it’s just a perfect representation of the ignorance people have about the federal government. I can think of a thousand jobs coding isn’t a part of.

This year I have learned, over and over, that I really do not know how airplanes or airports work. Not even a little bit. Would be cool if other people who didn't know how airplanes or, ya know, aviation generally, could admit that, and let the professionals do their jobs 🙃

I scored this excellent sweatshirt at the Mid Atlantic/Virginia Mosquito Control Association annual meeting today. So many great talks; so many public servants working to keep their communities safe.

This is how the federal government bloats during every republican administration. They are so concerned about people receiving the benefit of having a government that they create more work for themselves. Austerity costs money. They could review spending while programs run.

The mission of my project is to increase communication and collaboration between the public, private and academic sectors to improve our understanding of insecticide resistance and address the problem with better efficiency.

How exactly is banning communications improving efficiency?

If you're upset about all the executive orders that have been launched in the last few days you should call your Senators and tell them not to confirm Russell Vought. He's likely one of the primary authors behind many of them.

If you’ve been directly impacted by a pause or cancellation of an NIH study session, we @forbes.com would like to talk to you
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.

What I don’t understand is that this would be the perfect moment to highlight the fact that the Biden administration did not de enough to contain avian influenza. Why conceal the situation on day 2?

Our beloved and goofy cat Harry slipped out and was in the 15 degree windy snowy weather for 48 hours. So relieved to have him home and laughing about him gagging on this Churu. Maybe I’ll show him this next time he starts thinking about an escape.

It’s been awhile since I took care of little kids but I recently had a friend’s kid over… ya’ll know Dino nuggets have pterodactyls now?!

Side note: is it ok to buy these as an adult? 😂

I have seen so many takes on how badly RFK and Trump will handle an avian flu pandemic and while I am also not looking forward to that, this virus has been spreading in the US for two years almost completely unchecked by the Biden administration. Maybe we need less finger pointing and some action?
TY @juliadoubleday.bsky.social for brilliantly putting H5N1 in the context of the continuing failure of US COVID-19 pandemic management.
Likewise, @who.int still bases its "Standing [Covid] Recommendations" to member countries on you-do-you droplet dogma, instead of on the primary transmission mode.
Illogical quarantines. Optional testing. You-do-you PPE.

The H5N1 outbreak on dairy farms could have been ended with swift action months ago. Instead, officials deployed the COVID playbook. Now, we’re a mutation away from disaster:

Today I baked a pumpkin pie in a frozen pie shell without its tin, only realizing when the cooking time was up, scooped up the filling into a new pie shell and then baked it until the frozen shell was cooked and it WORKED. It tasted great. Christmas miracle. 🎄
