Books I am reading in 2025: a thread!

Finally finished THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON by Kelly Barnhill. Gorgeous MG fantasy that made me laugh, weep, and read bits out loud bc the prose is so good.

This is awful.
PBS NEWS WEEKEND has been cancelled and 34 jobs will be cut at WETA in Washington D.C.

The NEWS HOUR West Coast bureau will also close and the updated daily West Coast broadcast will end.

“We cannot fully compensate for the scope of the federal funding loss.”

WETA to cut staff, cancel ‘PBS News Weekend’ and close News Hour West bureau
The restructuring includes the elimination of 34 positions, following another round of cuts made in September.

Not really? Without Andrew, who wants a FB part 2! Literally no one wants to see just Zuck being weirder and more distanced from reality. NYSM films, otoh, are a HOOT to watch and, I assume, to make.
Totally wild that Jesse Eisenberg said no to the Zuckerberg sequel but signed up for a third Now You See Me film.

Sometimes I worry that I should not have quit my job, and other times I sit in a meeting and think OH BOY HOWDY THANK GOD NEXT WEEK IS MY LAST WEEK.

Also, men really love Joseph Campbell, wow. They are all heroes on their journeys!

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

I don't tend to be too political on main but I am honestly baffled at this Senate vote. We are Charlie Brown and the GOP are Sally with the football - how are Dems so credulous after all this time?? They won't bring a separate vote on ACA once they've won! They just won't! Argh!

Thought I was feeling much better today but after two hours of Doing Things I have put myself down for a nap on the couch. It's like I ran a marathon, but the marathon was just 'put on clothes, eat breakfast, check emails'.

I'm helping. North America, tonight is it!

I dislike the discombobulation of either time change. But I will sleep well tonight.

I am damn well going to do NaNo this year, but A L S O I have a terrible chest cold today so I am self-caring by resting and THINKING about writing. Which totally counts! (My personal NaNo is just "can I write 10k after nothing for two years?" but I am still nervous about it.)

So nice running into friends at the Muppets event in Brooklyn! So sorry I have been a hot mess all month and gave almost no one a heads up that I was coming to NYC for As birthday! NYC, I am in you! If you want a cheap bagel or hot slice date on Sunday, hit me up!

Features-wise I don't look a ton like either of them, though body-wise, definitely more like mom. And my dad's mom, sort of? My features have always been a family mystery until I discovered I got my nose from my maternal g-g-grandma. That's my nose! It's Dutch!

Since VT only has 650k people in the whole state, giving to the Vermont Foodbank is like giving to a local org in a small city, but it benefits a whole state! A++ option as we head into a long, uncertain winter.
