Books I am reading in 2025: a thread!

Finally finished THE GIRL WHO DRANK THE MOON by Kelly Barnhill. Gorgeous MG fantasy that made me laugh, weep, and read bits out loud bc the prose is so good.
Today I did so many small town things! Queer Craft Fair, barbershop holiday show at the UMC, took my 87yo choir friend to the near new grocery store in town. Now I just chill while waiting for my houseguest to arrive. (I'm getting a Yeats!!)

THIS PERSON IS A TRUE HERO.

the best Christmas special of all time!!!
It's that time of year when everyone watches the best Christmas special there is, Muppet Family Christmas.

But there are a lot of versions out there and deciding which one to watch can be hard.

So here is our subjective ranking of 22 different versions: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

YIKES the roads are bad out there. Just attempted an airport pickup, made it one exit on the highway, and turned back home. It's super cold so I thought the snow would have more traction but it's slippery like a banana peel out there. (Mom will get a hotel. This is what credit cards are made for!)

I bricked my phone with an actual physical brick (getbrick.app) and oh, man, it is Very Good. I didn't brick blue sky bc I already curate this so heavily. But since I did brick YouTube, this means I can see links to the Benoit Blanc muppets sketch but cannot click on it, sigh!

My first full week of unemployment started today and I leaned alllll the way in: pjs, pasta, Christmas lights, 7 hours of The Pitt.

I have a job interview next Tuesday, which is great! But I will not start any new job until the new year. My body is decompressing so hard I can feel it in my bones.

Morning of prosecco and White Christmas and friends with knitting and warm cats. Later, small business shopping while bundled up and drinking cocoa!

No one believes me when I say I have bad spatial reasoning but this proves it: I have been plotting how to get both cars into my garage for two months, and a friend (with great spatial reasoning!) moved things around for four minutes and THEY ARE BOTH IN.

12-hour choral workshop/concert went really well. I had a solo. People were very nice about it and gave me many compliments! But all I can think of was how red and sweaty I looked. If only I could stop being physically perceived, sigh. I'm great in audio and/or written form! #bodyissues

Have my phone back after leaving it at the bar after my celebratory end-of-work party. Literally filled only with people who have already quit, or who desperately want to quit. So, so many congratulations.

Also kind of nice to have 12 hours off from my phone!?

This is awful.
PBS NEWS WEEKEND has been cancelled and 34 jobs will be cut at WETA in Washington D.C.

The NEWS HOUR West Coast bureau will also close and the updated daily West Coast broadcast will end.

“We cannot fully compensate for the scope of the federal funding loss.”

The restructuring includes the elimination of 34 positions, following another round of cuts made in September.

Not really? Without Andrew, who wants a FB part 2! Literally no one wants to see just Zuck being weirder and more distanced from reality. NYSM films, otoh, are a HOOT to watch and, I assume, to make.
Totally wild that Jesse Eisenberg said no to the Zuckerberg sequel but signed up for a third Now You See Me film.

Sometimes I worry that I should not have quit my job, and other times I sit in a meeting and think OH BOY HOWDY THANK GOD NEXT WEEK IS MY LAST WEEK.

Also, men really love Joseph Campbell, wow. They are all heroes on their journeys!

Pretty much all affordability discourse could benefit from just posting this chart.

If you're in the better off America, all the luxury goods you want in excess are for the most part much cheaper. If you're in the poorer America, most of the shit you need to live/grow is more expensive.

I don't tend to be too political on main but I am honestly baffled at this Senate vote. We are Charlie Brown and the GOP are Sally with the football - how are Dems so credulous after all this time?? They won't bring a separate vote on ACA once they've won! They just won't! Argh!

Thought I was feeling much better today but after two hours of Doing Things I have put myself down for a nap on the couch. It's like I ran a marathon, but the marathon was just 'put on clothes, eat breakfast, check emails'.

My choir has a workshop in THREE WEEKS and I am supposed to have a flyer ready for handout by 1pm tomorrow, but I could not get info out of my fellow Board members all day PLUS I am SICK and blah blah I am working at 8pm (feels like 9pm) on a Sunday on a volunteer project and being grumpy about it.
