This being the first post on my feed when I opened the app feels... pointed.

(also - never!! 🌕)
The moon seems to have a dedicated PR team, with news outlets hyping Wolf Moons, Super Blood Moons, Cold Moons, and more, Kaitlyn Tiffany writes. She explores what's behind the moon hype:
Stop Talking About the Moon
Just look at it.

Had ridiculously long laces on my shoes (inexplicable teenage fashion choice) and put one foot through the lace loop of my other shoe, tying my ankles together while I was running across several lanes of traffic on O'Connell Bridge.
What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

😅

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

Aaaaagh I had made it all the way to Christmas this year without being Christmas Shoed and I've just heard it now in the final hour of Christmas FM. An almost perfect run!

(It's ok though as the friend I was playing against was Shoed on Dec 14th 😅)
My personal version of Whamageddon is avoiding the horrible Christmas Shoes song... and I've just been Christmas Shoed.

December 15th. It was a good run.

I know I haven't been going out in town as much as I used to, but, uh, since when do we [checks notes] eat black pudding with our pints to warm us up on pub crawls? 😅

Didn't know today was World Linguistics Day when I posted that and now it looks like that was a choice to mark it.

It wasn't... but I think I stand by it
Studying linguistics really made me reject prescriptivism and policing language etc.

But, uh, can we make an exception to agree that we should never abbreviate the word 'shampoo'?!

If you're wondering how long it's been since Simple Plan played in Ireland, let me tell you that I missed their last show as I didn't know it was happening - because I *didn't have the internet* at home yet 😅

Just a 20 year wait to live my teenage emo dreams!

Woke up in the middle of the night and looked out my window... to see this!

An incredible aurora display over Dublin around 3:30am (and a few Taurid meteors as well - not pictured) 😍

I mean... I'd be lying if I said there wasn't a tiny part of me expecting to see the Louvre when they rolled the VT.

Finally got to see one of the comets after a run of cloudy nights in Dublin! (C/2025 A6 Lemmon)

Maybe the real eclipse was the clouds we met along the way...

Stood on a hill for 45min, got stung by nettles, saw only clouds, gave up and went home... and then I turned around in my front garden and there was the effing moon. About three minutes after the main eclipse ended. Typical 😅

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it
AI Is a Mass-Delusion Event
Three years in, one of AI’s enduring impacts is to make people feel like they’re losing it.

Just realised I've reached that paradoxical time of upheaval that comes in every Irish woman's life... simultaneously too old and haggard to be the Rose of Tralee, and too young and sprightly to run for president 😅

This thread is incredible and I can only imagine the chaos if they let Irish people do the same here
When you register your name in the Icelandic phonebook you can choose to state your profession. And they have a pretty loose definition of what exactly a profession entails.

This person for example has opted for „þjóðhetja“. It means „National Hero“.
