This notion spreads far beyond the wellness industry - it goes back to America's puritan roots, to the plague that is Prosperity Gospel.

It's enmeshed with the thinking that the well off & successful are morally and spiritually superior to the impoverished & suffering; the fascist gospel of wealth.
The idea that health equals virtue is extremely dangerous.

Who doesn’t like natural foods and clean water? But the idea that if you’re fat or sick or disabled, it’s your fault is dehumanizing and wrong.

We’re all only ever one serious illness or accident away from disability. And life is random.

If you're new around here, Things I've Read Recently is a series of posts I do that are basically mini-reviews of books that I either forgot to review, didn't have enough to say for a full review, or just didn't want to do a full post about for whatever reason. You Feel It Just Below the Ribs by Jeffrey Cranor & Janina Matthewson…

that's a different thing. a different thing that already existed in the time of floppies. if you were going around on the 90s calling 3.5" disks "hard disks" you were just being confusing.

anyways it's making me think about the persistence of misinformation 🤠

there is a woman on TikTok who has been arguing for months now with randos that keep insisting that nobody called 3.5" disks "floppy disks" or "floppies" at the time. it's weird. no matter what kind of proof she provides or how many agree with her, people are coming out of the woodwork to disagree

Shout out to parents of toddlers for inventing the phrase "danger nap" because you're right, it is 4:30, that is a dangerous time for a nap

This is always my favourite blog post to write every year. Middle grade books are very dear to my heart, and this representation is so important. I love writing this post to tell you all about these books, and also, honestly, just to see them in all one place. It's just fun! Just as a quick disclaimer – I use a fairly loose definition for “Queer MG” that I wouldn’t necessarily use for YA or adult books.

Arthur Conan Doyle was so sick of Sherlock Holmes crowding out his other work, he killed him off.

The fandom responded by sending death threats to his house, wearing black arm bands in actual mourning, and canceling their lit mag subscriptions by the tens of thousands.

In 1893.
Only the internet can produce a generation of people who think this way–because the internet is always there, to give us exactly what we want. If you don't like how Game of Thrones ended, you can go read fan fiction, or watch YouTube videos about how it could have been better.

After... probably three or four years, actually, these leggings are giving up the ghost and dying to my thighs.

They keep ripping when I sit down and it's such an unnerving feeling XD

Would love to know what in particular triggered the headache today.

Or just for it to stop. That would also be cool. Holy.

Sometimes I just don't feel like talking about what I read in a review. Here are those books. The full Hunger Games series When the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes first came out, I wasn't really interested in it, so I never read it. But the moment Sunrise on the Reaping was announced, I wanted to read it, lol. So I figured I should read Ballad and they happened to show up from my library at the same time, and then since I had them, I figured I might as well reread the full series.
