you know we used to have to do at least a little work to prove the connection between racism and transphobia
Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)

all these "I'm voting no! statements" from senators are empty bullshit to me unless they are calling for new leadership and shunning each coward caver and swearing to make their life half the living hell they just put their constituents through for no reason

Carefully choreographed votes and angry press releases are all cute, but the indication of whether anyone in the caucus really cares is whether there’s any push for leadership changes or punitive action against the cavers.
There won’t be, but that would be the theoretical sign this is different

The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:
Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

Anyway a great way to radicalize people is for them to realize that you just abandoned their chance at being able to access and afford health care because you didn’t like waiting in line at the airport.

FoxIt reader is close to becoming useless to me. I use it for contracts between me and places that want to bring me out as a speaker, but the Signature feature is broken, which is kind of important for . . . contracts.

Is there anything else between now and next November that can act as a bellwether on the extent to which the electorate is coming out of its MAGA fever? I'm talking to bookish people about the prospect of a queer kids' book, and I'd like to point to other potential hopeful signs in the wake of 11/4.

I don't know how all us novelists are not rolling in money, what with all the people emailing us to say that they personally control book clubs with thousands of members who will buy whatever they recommend.

I remember on election night paying attention to the exit polling, and yeah, trans stuff was not among the issues that trump voters indicated motivated their votes. It's a weird gaslit feeling when I see liberal pundits suggesting it's what cost Democrats the election.
But they want a scapegoat.
But they want a scapegoat.
the harris campaign said the “they/them” ad didn’t sway the election.
one of the trump campaign’s top strategists this week said trans rights isn’t in the top five issues for swing voters.
when will the press stop talking about us like we’re a liability and start looking itself in the mirror

I wonder if this is an aging person experience, a just-me experience, or if others are finding it too: as the internet becomes completely enshittified, I'm finding myself growing increasingly bored, and spending less time online and more time in . . . books. It's a weird reversion to adolescence.
