📌Hello! My name is Kytri. I've been doing webcomics for longer than is sensible and my current one is called Crypts and Cantrips. It is a mostly character driven queer little fantasy adventure story.

I also do illustrations and prose, and am trying to learn game dev. Please see my bio for links.

Actually something new this week. I just sketched this out for fun in between working on the comic and a commission.

I'm done flatting the interior art for chapter 17 and am a little over halfway done with the shading.

Something a little different. Some cartoonists put out a call for comics about local ICE experiences. This one happened a few months ago so it's a little older than current events, but it's a story that I never stopped thinking about. #ICEoutcomics

Wearing a bracelet that another detainee made him from one of the thin mylar blankets they were given, he says: “ I don’t want to cry. But I want to say...nobody should be in here.”

Welp, the issue is with the tablet monitor.

I was getting hopeful because it had been so long since I saw it happen.

Swapped the cables on my monitors so next time it turns off on me I'll know if the issue is with the tablet monitor (expensive and hard to replace) or the video card (expensive but hopefully easier to replace) based on which monitor shuts off.

I opened the ebook and there's something very funny about one of the first lines mentioning something happening in 1920, which for me is over a century ago and for the author was in the future by decades. I love that.

Woke up at midnight and couldn't get back to sleep and I'm trying to make an effort to read more so I opened the library app on my phone intent on checking something out. I've mainly used it for audiobooks so far.
Anyway I wish the app let me filter out stuff more granularly.

Just before Christmas, I got a puppy. Her name is Minerva, and we call her *Minnie. I'm still learning how to understand her. Me: Do you need to go outside? Do you need to go outside, little baby? Do you need to do a poo? Do you need to do a widdle piddle? Minnie: Arf! *I just call her "little baby" most of the time. I'm also realizing I can't turn off the baby talk now. Nobody tells you about that. I got so lucky with my first puppy. Her wonderful foster parents had her completely house-trained by the time we adopted her, so taking her outside for potty time has been pretty easy. I've got the puppy poopy routine pretty much down, now. Me, putting on my coat: Let's see... I got the little poopy bags, puppy treats for bribes, jacket, scarf, phone… I think that's everything… Oh yes! And my passport. I had been carrying around my passport for a while, but I knew it didn't matter. This is wrong. Nobody is required to carry around their papers. I became a US citizen when I was seven. Since I was born in a refugee camp, I was stateless. The US is the only nation where I've ever held citizenship. It's the only passport I've ever had, and it still felt important. Protective. I would hold it in my pocket like a talisman, like it might ward off ghosts or something. But I realized I was holding onto it basically out of superstition. ICE will pick up anybody. I know that. So I tucked my passport away. And I largely avoid leaving my house. I live a few blocks just South of George Floyd Square. I was in the neighborhood for that, too. And all the neighbors came together to protect each other. We're already organized. We'll do our best to get through this. Me, to my dog: I hope I can take you for a walk someday soon. Won't that be nice, little baby?

I should try to join a webcomic webring/collective/etc but every time I've applied to something like that I've been rejected so I get scared. (Woolwolf was an exception, they approached me)

I'd set one up myself but I know I'm a very disorganized person and should not be in charge of such a thing.

I need to go to bed but have been reading more people's personal accounts about the hiveworks situation and I'm not even involved but it still sucks so bad.
It feels like every comic publisher has abuse and mismanagement issues. And I'm sure some don't? Surely? But I've heard so many horror stories.

RE: Hiveworks stuff, it's become really clear is how much of the toxicity of the leadership came from seeing fellow artists as competition and threats rather than comrades who lift each other up.

Hey. You know those cute little crow time comics everyone loves so much? That's Isa. That's who everyone is talking about. I think that needed to be made clear since I noticed some confusion and a lot are actually rather unaware of this fact because she's great at separating herself from this.

Oh my god.

I feel like this is extra wild to read as someone who's been doing webcomics the whole time but only ever saw the public facing side of Hiveworks. Someone to help with web design/hosting and stuff like printing and merch sounded like such a godsend. I wanted to be on there so badly.

There were those WoLQotD posts going around about their parents so I finally designed Thilan's parents I guess.

I have not named them. Thilan does not remember them. They have been dead for hundreds of years. I guess they were craftspeople or something.
