It's wild that I spent buckets of cash to attend art school, then traveled the world to study at museums where the masters detailed the finer points of human anatomy, and here's SmoothDunk just blasting it out there with perfection on the daily for free.

I noticed this morning that my beloved American Science & Surplus "measure magnet" is no longer stuck to the range hood. Where is it!? I have searched the entire kitchen and all around AND inside the oven, it's simply GONE! No more Sciplus and no more magnet. 😭

Just like #genAI in general, upscaling means hallucination. It doesn't operate in the realm of factual truth and historical authenticity, but rather produces probable, more or less plausible versions of what could have been. Its application to historical content is a form of destruction of knowledge
Youtube has announced that all low-res videos (i.e. older ones) are to be automatically AI upscaled to HD.
Creators can opt-out on a per video basis (but the channel may be long abandoned).
When researching props or behind the scenes, old videos are useful, but not if upscaling produces artefacts.
